I would recommend both of you take a Pistol Course from a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor

We already did that as part of the permit process here in NYS.

If that is the case you might want to consider taking

the NRA Certified
Personal Protection in the Home and the new and soon to be released
Personal Protection outside the Home courses.
