'A SPINELESS retard with the character of pond scum." A "whacko," "greedy un-American idiot," "fascist," "whining liberal" and "nasty little gun grabber."
Those are just some of the names I've been called since I published an Op-Ed article in the Washington Post to commemorate the fifth anniversary of my brother's death. After briefly stating that David and his fiancee were shot and killed by the fiancee's mother, who was angry that she had to move out of their L.A. apartment, I went on to argue for a national ban on handguns. The gun control lobby, led by the Brady Campaign, has worked passionately to make guns safer and to regulate their sales. But such measures, I contended, will never significantly reduce the annual U.S. death toll by firearms — 12,000 — because most murderers use legally purchased handguns and know how to operate them safely.
A couple of days later, while procrastinating on a writing assignment, I Googled my article. And so began my strange, weeklong trip through chat rooms on such pro-gun websites as keepandbeararms.com freerepublic.com, packing.org and rightnation.us.

A mother shoots....(women rarely use guns) and kills, not wounds, but kills both her daughter and her boyfriend? And the supposed story can't be found, even though it made it in the 'Times' (LA Times?) and in the Daily News (NY?). Sounds like it would be a wire story too.And she doesn't give the day or year?
Yeah, right.
If Jenny Price wants to be unarmed - that's her choice but she ought to keep her grubby hands off those of us who own guns!

The only paranoia and bone-chilling hatred I see here is coming from the liberal witch. From FReepers, I see compassion for her - which she doesn't deserve.

My father was murdered by his own hand that pulled the trigger 30 years ago, as a result of a mind that was troubled to the point of suicide. I am pro better mental health, not gun control, the gun didn't kill my dad, my dad killed my dad.

But the paranoia and bone-chilling hatred that spew from such sites as packing.org and freerepublic.com make for an equally — and unusually — effective argument for a ban on handguns.
Really, this whole piece is an effective argument for banning liberals.

Since at least 1/2 of my guns are military rifles there is a good chance 1 or 2 of them may have killed somebody, somewhere at some time.

I'm reluctant to give the LA Times and this gun confiscation advocate the page views, so I think I'll refrain from reading the entire article.
From what I've read of the excerpt, it would appear that this woman is looking to play the blog martyr. Looks like those nasty ol' bloggers tweaked her widdle nose and she wants to wail and commiserate over it. OK everybody, all together now: aaawwwwwww.
Freedom of the press means freedom to be an idiot in print, and it's obvious that this woman is determined to fully exercise her rights in that regard. That bloggers would exercise their right to call her out on it should be neither surprising nor all that upsetting. But it would appear that this nascent 'Saint Jenny of Gun Confiscation' is determined to milk her blog martyrdom for what it's worth.

Gun-obsessed? I own two guns for home defense. Haven't shot them in years. But I'm a firm believer in the right to bear arms and the right to defend yourself in public and private.
I'd spent a week in the company of people with closed minds and cold hearts. And what saddens me most is that vengeful intolerance is all too common and leads people every day to reach for a handgun to kill people.
Ah, so now because we think you're an idiot, it's the same hatred that leads to reaching for a gun to kill someone. What a pantie-load. Guess what, nitwit? The woman who killed your brother - she didn't post here. Please cite one instance where a freeper has been charged with a violent crime. However, I can cite instances where your fellow gun-grabbers have assaulted pro-gun protestors.
Meanwhile, do you really want these people on these websites (and 40 million other people in the country) to have guns?
Typical liberal. I could make a case that liberal anti-war idiocy is a far greater danger to this country, as it emboldens our enemies. But I'm not gonna call for it to be outlawed, because, unlike you, I do believe in the entire Constitution, not just the parts I use on a regular basis.

Like hell you can. Scholars from around the country, including liberal ones such as Tribe, have come to the opposite conclusion. But don't let the facts get in the way of increasing your liberal myopia.
