In the days after the horror of the 11 September attacks, President George W Bush made a point of saying Muslims per se were not America's enemy.
But in the five years since then, he has taken less care to emphasise that message, US Muslim leaders are saying.
They are upset about his use of terms like "Islamic fascists", which he used this week both for Hezbollah and the suspected bomb plotters held in the UK.
"It offends the vast majority of moderate Muslims," Ahmed Younis said.
"The use of the term casts a shadow upon Islam and bolsters the argument that there is a clash of civilisations between Islam and the West," Mr Younis, the national director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (Mpac), told the BBC.
He said it was wrong to link the actions of violent Muslims to their religion.
"There is nothing Islamic about their fascism. The Prophet [Muhammad] and the Koran clearly articulate that this type of activity is outside of bounds for Muslims."

Mega Dittos.
When are we going to wise up and stop ALL immigration from Muslim countries? They know exactly how to get us , by using and abusing our ouw freedom to get to us. They are VERY slick these Muzzies. Law by law , state by state they will take over the US. They are doing it now folks , wake the hell up !
Holy Sh........t
Moderate Muslim = Muslim at room temperature
The verbal and literary equivalent to the Danish Mohammed cartoons which were snuffed out and chilled worldwide through the fear brought about by Islamic fascistic threats and violence. If Bush backs off the use of "Islamic Fascism" then I'll consider it another nail in the coffin of western liberalism and freedom. It would be the military equivalent of retreating from the battlefield.
I say we hit 'em harder and harder with more potent written and verbal truths and characterizations. Marginalize, embarrass, mock and despise. Afterall, its what they do.
We now have Islamists in our midst. I understand that more moderate Muslims who call for a crackdown on Islamists will face retribution from the extremists. But they created this problem by allowing extremists to mestastize here.
But their fears of retribution will pale in comparison to what will descend upon them if American homegrown Islamists who have been allowed to fester attack us.
Forget internment. The pressure for expulsion will be overwhelming.
At some point, moderate Islam either must adapt or be banished. It is becoming clearer with each passing news cycle there can be no middle ground.
I love your post.Send a copy to CARE and t your local politicians. We MUST let our leaders know that the American people have had it with Islam and we want them out..Im serious here. What can we here on FR do to start a grass roots movement to stop the influx of Moslems to this country ?
All four of them.
He said it was wrong to link the actions of violent Muslims to their religion.
It's the violent Muslims who are doing that not us.
Their religion should be considered a crime worldwide.I bet when they are bored they sit around and cut themselves with knives just to see the blood run!
But they won't leave. That's just it, they will vote for Muslim-lovers like Kerry. Then we're hung out to dry.
Ooooooooooo, an angry Mooslim. There's a concept I have trouble wrapping my noggin around.

"The use of the term casts a shadow upon Islam"
kinda the idea to expose this crap called Islam as what it is, a fascist idea disguised religion
I guess they would really be offended by such names as "koranimals", "Islamic totalitarians", "Jewkillers", and so on...
