Boston may have been one of the targets in the alleged plot to blow up airplanes headed to the United States from Great Britain, according to published reports NewsCenter 5's Steve Lacey reported Friday that information out of London Friday is in sharp contradiction to what Gov. Mitt Romney said Thursday about the plot.
Several British newspapers are quoting U.S. officials saying the planes targeted by the terrorists were headed to New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles and Boston.
British authorities said that the plan was to blow up planes in mid-flight using explosives smuggled in hand luggage. The newspapers reported the bombs were to detonate not over the Atlantic Ocean -- but over the cities while the planes were landing, causing even more casualties on the ground. Despite these reports, the governor is standing by his assertion that the Hub was not at risk.

I've never been to Logan myself. He has only recently started flying on his own on business. He was never crazy about flying to begin with.
That may be true, but their intention was obviously to kill lots of people on the ground. Furthermore, with better targeting - over a business district, say, or even when landing at the airport - they'd take out a lot more people than a non-targeted crash over a residential neighborhood of single-family houses where most people were not even home at the time.
All true, it would be total chaos for a while. But as you know, this would never happen, it's just a conspiracy to keep us scared and take away our freedom (that last part is sarcasm).
That's not what they were hoping for in an airburst. They want cameras. Some kind of video showing the plane gliding over the city and then bursting into flames, something that will immortalize their attack the same way the cameras of 9/11 did. That would magnify the effects of terror far more than any body count.

we know how well that worked out for Flight 800 over NYC. Sad that the NYTs saw fit not to interview anyone who saw a missile heading for it.
I have flown out of Logan, and into Logan, I have dropped people off at the airport, and picked them up. Logan is kind of confusing, but he will be fine.
I have a brother who would never fly, his first flight was to Cuba on a missionary trip on a small plane. He has flown many times since on commerical planes. He had to get his faith in order before flying.
The attack on the Pentagon, a large office building filled with people resulted in 125 dead and 80 injured (exclusive of the passengers and crew on the plane).
That was exactly what I figured the first time I heard this report. These guys are beyond blowing up airliners. They want our cities. That's why a "dirty bomb" will be the next move.
The Pentagon is not that big a building and is by its nature in an isolated place. I'm assuming you've never seen a street in Manhattan during the middle of the day, where there are probably a thousand people per block moving about on the street.
In any case, are you defending them by saying they wouldn't actually be able to kill as many people as they wanted to? They have the desire, and if they get lucky, they'll be able to do it. It's up to us to keep tabs on their various desires and make sure they never get lucky.
I dont know about all cities , but the airports around DC would not be that prone to getting a lot of people killed should the plane explode on the approach.
To Washington National the approaches are over water, to Dulles mostly Rural although it is building up. To BWI they come in over water or rural land. Certainly the Urban sprawl has built under some of these flight paths but not as thickly as over a city.
I believe the plot was made to explode over the ocean like the Brits say and some newspaper editor added the polt to explode over cities to sell more papers.
We also know now that there were three bombs per plane planned. So they had backup, if one didn't work.

The WTC (which was also an office complex) suffered two direct hits. Less than 10% were killed.
BTW, the Pentagon is hardly desolate ~ it dominates a vast space because it's only a few stories tall.
Oh, and Europe was pretty poor compared to the Islamic lands when the Muslims nevertheless tried to take over Europe in the 900s. It ain't about the money (and usually isn't).
