Love is a Battlefield
IDF soldier received heart shaped cookie somewhere near the Lebanon border...
Then the lives of the soldiers was in vain. You don't go into war half assed. If you do, you ALWAYS loose. You pick your fights, and fight to win. If, as you say, Olmert only wanted to score a few polling points, then FR rules are such I can not express what that man is.
Much like in 1975 everyone warned of disaster after the pullout from Saigon only to see the USSR go belly up by 1991.
And the surrounding countries became communist, and most remain so to this day. Russia falling had little to do with Vietnam one way or another.
"The huge plus out of this is that it signals the end of Kadima and Olmert as a viable political force."
And maybe the Israeli's needed this lesson "up close" and personal. Why? Because a bigger conflict is coming. I think liberalism survives by keeping a distance, from having to take personal responsibility for a nation's security. Well Olmert is in charge and we got to see how liberals operate in war. They get their own people killed. They worry more for another country's civilians than they do their own. This will be painful for Israel, but they must see the consequences of their security fatigue.
I just heard a report from both James Rosen and Jennifer Griffin outlining the resolution...and I STILL haven't heard the kidnapped soldiers mentioned....
WTH is up with that???
The only voice crying in the wilderness that Israel has the right to defend itself came from the President of the United States and his administration.
When the world was calling for an immediate cease fire, GWB was calling for "restraint". Which, IMO, is political speak for "Israel, go and do whatever you need to do".
Israel blew it. I know this upsets you. But, it's still true.
Is there a link to the draft resolution available?
becuase there is nothing in there about them..not a word

Yes, No, Yes, No, - Maybe
In the 2 1/2 hours since I posted the news story which confirmed what I posted earlier on Olmert giving the IDF the go ahead , now this that Olmert is going to accept the cease fire.
Olmert is INSANE
Well, that's good news. Thanks.
What time?
I haven't heard ONE WORD about them. Not ONE.
They are not part of the deal. The kidnapped soldiers are probably going to be left to their fate.
Which may soon be Israel's, and ours.
Stay tuned... Olmert could change his mind again ... LOL.
Why would the US sign on to a resolution that counters everything it stands for in the war on terror?
Anyway, to steal a phrase from the gay activist lobby, if we had been "loud and proud" in our support of Israel from the beginning, Olmert may very well have done things in a different manner. I agree that Olmert is a bit of a coward, but I do think he wanted to do the right thing. He was just too scared of the international pressure (and pressure within his own political party) that comes from doing the right thing. His personality reminds me a lot of Justice Kennedy. We knew who we were dealing with when the war first started. I think we should have tailored our public responses to provide Olmert with the support he needed to justify a tough war.
In any event, I stand by comments I've made elsewhere that we need to get out of the UN. It does us very little good and every time we try to make nice with Russia, France, or China, they just come back to stab us in the back.
You mean fight to the last drop of Israeli blood? Don't be an id'jut, unless you were prepared to move American troops to support Israel.
From Haaretz:
00:51 Olmert thanks Bush for his concern for Israeli interests in Security Council (Haaretz)
00:42 Source: Lebanese gov`t moves to accept UN cease-fire resolution (Reuters)
00:40 PM`s office says expanded ground operation to continue `for now` (Haaretz)
00:19 Political source: Olmert informs U.S. of decision to accept cease-fire (AP)
I know it upsets you to admit that our President is less than perfect, but it's still true.
I, on the other hand, have been perfectly willing to admit that Israel made some major errors.
Ehud Olmert...President Bush gave him, IMHO, more cover than any president has ever given an Israeli prime minister. Unfortunately, as a liberal, Olmert didn't have what it takes to fight a war. If the Israeli electorate, and by example the American electorate, learns that courageous, principled leadership matters it will be an expensive but valuable lesson.
Yes...but WE HAVEN'T BACKED OUT OF IRAQ...like Olmert is backing out of Lebanon, right???
THAT is the difference.
If Iran or Syria had attacked Israel, I certainly hope we would have been wiling to move American troops in to support it.

He has to be insane. I agree. There is no other explanation. His flip flopping is destroying Israel.
Good chance that Syria will invade soon. This is a prime opportunity.
