Nearly four in 10 Americans admit having feelings of prejudice against Muslims living in the U.S. and are in favor of having Muslims carry a special ID, a new Gallup poll reveals.
Also, 22 percent of those surveyed said they would not like to have a Muslim as a neighbor.
Among the findings of the late-July USA Today/Gallup poll:
31 percent of respondents said they would feel nervous if they noticed a Muslim man on their airplane flight, and 18 percent would feel nervous about a Muslim woman flying with them.
Less than half 49 percent feel that Muslims living in the U.S. are loyal to this country.
34 percent believe American Muslims are sympathetic to the al-Qaida terrorist organization.
40 percent of respondents said they believe Muslims in the U.S. are not respectful of other religions, and 44 percent said Muslims are too extreme in their religious beliefs.
A slight majority 52 percent believe Muslims are not respectful of women.
39 percent said the U.S. should require Muslims to carry a special ID, and 57 percent believe they should undergo more intensive security checks at airports.
39 percent said they "have at least some feelings of prejudice against Muslims, 59 percent said they did not, and 2 percent had no opinion.
Opinions are different, however, among Americans who are personally acquainted with a Muslim, the poll disclosed.
For example, only 10 percent of those who know a Muslim said they would not want one as a neighbor, and 24 percent believe Muslims should carry a special ID compared to 50 percent among those who dont know a Muslim.
The truth is that the numbers are going up each day, and in a special way, after what happened yesterday with the foiled massive bombing plot of up to 10 planes. Folks are getting fed up with the deafining silence of the Muslim community.
Thank-you.
BTW, there will be taking place in my home state of CT, in Hartford, this weekend a huge Christian women's conference.
I have many Muslim neighbors and I do fight a sense of worry. Maybe its the language barrier, maybe its who much they keep to themselves, or maybe its what I know about their belief system. I have taken it upon myself to be cordial, even fix their kids bikes from time to time.
When Christ said Love thy neighbor he never said it would be easy..
Hopefully, they will also get fed up with the stupidity of TSA harrassing former governors and medal of honor winners at the airports, and spend a little more time on more probable suspects.
Thats what I'm talking about!
THERE ARE NO, good moslims
An additional 4 in 10 probably lied because they did not want to appear politically incorrect.
Well, it might be helpful if some of them spoke up once in awhile. The silence is deafening.
A: A Start
The only way we can authoritatively say that x number of people are y is if we have concrete proof or can see in to their intentions and soul.
I can't say 90% are non-extremists anymore than you can say that 90% are. But we should not be indicting a whole group of people solely on their belief system. If they play by the rules and behave, I see no reason why they should be bothered.
What I'm saying is that people of all faiths are sinners. There are bad people and good people but all our guilty.
With a 50% divorce rate in this country.. a Christian nation.. don't sit here and act like we are better people. Because we aren't.
I'm not giving a free pass to anyone. I'm saying everyone deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt. Just as I shouldn't be judging those that have gotten a divorce. I won't judge others just by their religion.
Oh I'm sorry. Since the Constitution is the basis of all law here in American. Every person is called to defend it.
I guess by your comments I should understand you to mean that you don't care for our Constitution at all and since you are an average American you would be happy to rip apart any part of the Constitution.
Conservatives don't have feelings?
I guess based on your prior post you don't think so.
Perhaps you don't love anyone? Maybe you need a hug.
I have shot, gutted, skinned, butchered, smoked and eaten not one but two feral hogs in my lifetime.
Trust me? =)
Damn fine eating, too, I might add.
Perhaps an unfair assumption but I was talking to the people on this board. Most of Free Republic people are Conservative Republican Christians.
Apparently by your comments you are just as "subhuman" as they are.
That was a poll taken in late July. I suspect the results would be quite different today.
Almond -- get some help!
Who do you want to win the war of terrorism. Us or the terrorists. You get the choice. I do too. I've said we ought to expel all the Muslims and this problem will recede because they won't be here at all. Muslims have provem themselves to be incapable of living in civilized society. So we can just choose to live apart from them. What's wrong with that. Would you invite an ax murderer into your home?
So, most of them are wrong, according to you. Wrong in what way? Wrong about what?
