U.S. Poll: Large Minority Fear, Mistrust Muslims
NewsMax ^ | 11 August 2006

Nearly four in 10 Americans admit having feelings of prejudice against Muslims living in the U.S. – and are in favor of having Muslims carry a special ID, a new Gallup poll reveals.

Also, 22 percent of those surveyed said they would not like to have a Muslim as a neighbor.

Among the findings of the late-July USA Today/Gallup poll:

31 percent of respondents said they would feel nervous if they noticed a Muslim man on their airplane flight, and 18 percent would feel nervous about a Muslim woman flying with them.

Less than half – 49 percent – feel that Muslims living in the U.S. are loyal to this country.

34 percent believe American Muslims are sympathetic to the al-Qaida terrorist organization.

40 percent of respondents said they believe Muslims in the U.S. are not respectful of other religions, and 44 percent said Muslims are too extreme in their religious beliefs.

A slight majority – 52 percent – believe Muslims are not respectful of women.

39 percent said the U.S. should require Muslims to carry a special ID, and 57 percent believe they should undergo more intensive security checks at airports.

39 percent said they "have at least some feelings of prejudice against Muslims,” 59 percent said they did not, and 2 percent had no opinion.

Opinions are different, however, among Americans who are personally acquainted with a Muslim, the poll disclosed.

For example, only 10 percent of those who know a Muslim said they would not want one as a neighbor, and 24 percent believe Muslims should carry a special ID – compared to 50 percent among those who don’t know a Muslim.

The "non-muslim street" has had a bellyful of the "Religion of Peace" and is about to get medieval.

I agree about the Nazi comparison, and yes the quran is a lot like a book Hitler would have written , hates jews, thinks they [ muslims ] the chosen people and all others are infidels , and trying ' AGAIN ' to conquer the world . Sound like radical islam ?

We can't forget that Islam has taken over most of the nations they are near by the sword . Africa ,Indonesia , A lot of China ,Russia, India , Phillips, Thailand, and many others . Can't blame America for these nations wars . These people were invaded long before we went into Iraq or Afghanistan.

I think we are on the same side. I think pat downs of everyone is ridiculous. Old ladys? Give me a break. But I don't think you are right in saying they a far from a majority. I think they are a minority but they are far more than you think. Heck my Dad is one and I go round with him all the time.

I think this line of talk is as dangerous as the code pink crowd. Maybe worse... I say worse because I would gladly give my life for this country if it meant preserving freedom. Although I think some people would rather preserve their life over their own souls.

Christianity should also be the only religion on Earth but I see it a little different than CAIR. See I don't believe in forced conversion.

They did the same thing in all the other nations they eventually took over with the sword ! They come in nice and peaceful, till their army inside the host nation is strong . After this happens the radicals over ride the moderates and the rest is history . I think moderate muslims are good people , but the quran can be used to turn them violent with the right mullah . I just hope that the moderates are smart .

PS, what does this , ' loose lips sink ships ' phases mean ?

"Some would say Christianity is a cancer. Some would say White people are a cancer.

How do you feel about that?

Mind you I'm a white Christian but I'm also an educated one. One that knows what the Church has done and one that knows what White people have done as well.

That doesn't make Arabs and Muslims innocent.

But just like I was and never will be a slave owner. Not all Muslims believe in killing all non believers either."

Offhand I know of no Christians who want to go back to the 7th Century and are willing to kill anyone who disagrees with them to do it. Do you?

Islam is a cancer; a mastacizing cancer. If a cancer is not excised completely it will kill the host. That is exactly what Islam is doing to western civilization right now. Can you deny it?

If we are going to be civil, having established a country where practitioners of religions of every kind are free to pursue their dreams, then we must endure a certain degree of discomfort as people of different faiths carry on in life. If, however, certain people seek to establish a country where practitioners of religions of every kind are restricted or prohibited, and do so by physical force or threat, they must be opposed.

I believe there are Muslims in this country who understand and appreciate the former idea. Must they "conflict themselves," i.e. live in a country that is not perfectly in accord with the religious beliefs they hold? Yes. So must Christians, Jews, and Secularists. There is no way to establish a pluralistic nation without allowing for some give and take.

If we absolutely cannot tolerate any and every faith, then we need to rewrite the Constitution to say as much. I don't particularly care for or trust Muslims. I absolutely despise the ones who are attempting to establish a rule on earth that does not allow for people of all faiths (within reason). The two types are not identical.

"They did the same thing in all the other nations they eventually took over with the sword ! They come in nice and peaceful, till their army inside the host nation is strong . After this happens the radicals over ride the moderates and the rest is history"

The later generation is definitely more extremist. This growing virulence can be traced to the overthrow of the SHah and the counterinfestation that seized America like a cancer in the 60s and 70s. Because of these two influences, anti-Americanism and Islamofascism became a serious problem. If the hippies never existed, the terror scum would never have a ready resource of globAL anti-Americanism AND MINDLESS APPEASEMENT to exploit and a base of operations a la Iran/Afghanistan.

Russkies playing with terrorists to destabilize Israel, America, and the West didn't help matters either.

"I think moderate muslims are good people , but the quran can be used to turn them violent with the right mullah . I just hope that the moderates are smart ."

Good we are on the same page.

"PS, what does this , ' loose lips sink ships ' phases mean ?"

Huh?

Of course I can deny it.

I guess we should just kill anyone and everyone who we disagree with huh?

That would be so simple. Let's just kill everyone in the middle east and if a few non Muslims.. even Christians get in the way well it's their own fault right?

Apparently you can't see down the path you are heading. I feel sorry for you.

Let me ask you a question though. When you are before your maker what do you want to tell him?

Would you prefer to go to him and tell him your murderered thousands, imprisoned thousands more, all in the name of saving your country?

Or would prefer to appear a little earlier before your maker and tell him that you did the best you could to convert as many Muslims to Christianity before you were killed in that horrible terrorist bomb attack?

And don't dodge it.. don't claim it's a loaded question... that's what this thread is all about. Do we kill, imprison, or kick out of this country every Muslim, or do act like God fearing Christians and treat every individual like they should be.. like a human being.

To be fair Killborn the good ole USA played with terrorists too.

We also played with Saddam to counter Jimmy's mess. Again I'm only saying this in fairness. Looking back some of these things didn't look very smart.. however at the time we were doing what we thought neccessary to protect our interest.

True, but we don't do it as much as the Soviets and our intentions are good. It's unsavory but we have to do it. Can you imagine if the ME is run by Mamud Imastupidjihadi?

Since they declared war on us, why cant we round them up and put them in camps?

Actually I favor deportation as traitors to Arabia, but only 4 out of 10 Americans have a clue so far.

My last boss was a Muslim from Pakistan, here on a work visa. He had the arranged marriage, his wife wears the garb, and he reads the Koran. Given that he was a swarmy, lying weasel, knowing him doesn't sway my opinion their way.

Pardon---
The Jews who were forced to wear the yellow star had done NOTHING.
Judiasm had not declared war on, nor was it terrorizing, the world.
Please don't compare innocent Judaism to guilty Islam.
Muslims have done PLENTY to deserve being easily identifiable.
Islam has earned distrust, suspicion and-yes- the star and crescent identifying them as the death-worshipping cultists that they are.

I'm assuming your point is that just as all those professing to be Christians do not follow all the commandments, neither then do all professing muslims follow all the tenets of islam. ?? If so, good analogy. If one doesn't believe that their chosen holy book says what it means and means what it says, then why bother?
It does seem though that while you berate Christians for picking and choosing which parts of the Bible they will follow, you give a free pass to muslims who do the same. Hopefully, that is a false impression along with the implication on your part that any opinion contrary to yours must be, by default, wrong and thus summarily dismissed.

Winston Churchill condemned Islam 100 years ago; saying: "Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities...but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world." .

Winston Churchill on ISLAM:

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries!

- "Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.

The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities...but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world.

Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome."

Sir Winston Churchill, from The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50

Best to learn from some ex- Muslims, like Dr Ali Sina, or Arab Ibn Warraq, etc. for the truth about Islam. Warraq, who is an Arab, has written and studied Islamic scholars for years. Ibn Warraq wrote: "Why I Am Not A Muslim",

"Why I left Islam", by Dr. Ali Sina

"The enemy is Islam and that is the target of my attacks. I do that, despite knowing that I have become the magnet of the hatred of fanatical Muslims and my own life could be in danger. Yet I know that by eradicating Islam we can save the world from the dangers of a catastrophe that otherwise is looming over our heads and could cause more disaster than the 1st and 2nd World Wars combined. Eradication of Islam means restoring peace among humanity and civility, democracy and prosperity in the Muslim world."

" Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant...The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth," -Omar Ahmad; Co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Warraq's new book:

"Leaving Islam", By Ibn Warraq
