Five London Suspects Still at Large
ABC NEWS ^ | 8-10-06 | ABC NEWS - BRIAN ROSS

Five of the suspected London terrorists are still at large and are being urgently hunted, according to U.S. sources who have been briefed on the airplane bombing plot.

Officials tell ABC News 24 people now have been taken into custody. Twenty-two are believed to be of Pakistani descent. One is Bangladeshi, and another is of Iranian descent, according to the officials.

One of the arrests was made in the northeastern London suburb of Walthamstow. Residents said police took away a man in his late 20s at 2 a.m. today. The neighbors said the man was British-born, with one parent who is Iranian and had recently become very religious.

There are those who'll say it's our support of Israel. Stupid, but they're anti-Semites, anyway, and this is an argument appeasers will use. We should have helped Israel turn Syria and Iran into a wasteland instead of continuing this nowhere diplomacy baloney.

This "religion" creates enthusiasm for martyrdom achieved by killing "infidels".

One idiot at work this am complained that we'd spent millions for airport security and homeland security, and look what happens. I said, Yeah, they caught the guys, right? The idiot had to think about it, then admitted that they'd caught the bombers. Talk about dumb.

Now we're in a geopolitical situation were the majority sunni governments are weak, and the shia nation of Iran is perceived by muslims as the strong horse.

You know, I never thought of it that way. You might have a good point there. Whatever animosity exists between Sunni and Shia (see the sectarian violence in Iraq for instance) it does seem that they have no problem uniting against their common enemies: the US and Israel.

I'm afraid you might also be right about the necessity of dealing with Iran. I'll admit the prospect of a war with the Iranians (and possibly at the same time Syria) is not a prospect I look forward to. I'm not saying the US and Israeli militarys would not prevail, but it would be REAL ugly. Unfortunately, it looks like we're on a collision course with just such a scenario.

I am aware that Pakistan is in Asia, but the overly broad description is what bothers me. Perhaps just call them "young men" so as not to offend anyone.

Also pointed out to me is the fact that in the UK, the term Asia refers to the Middle East area rather than all of Asia as we would interpret it.

The DUmpster is calling all this a propaganda piece for the November elections! The level of delusion out there is reaching the 'padded-room' level.

Wonder how many people in the London Subway will decide to run when told to stop?

It's not so much that Asia doesn't refer to all of Asia. But, if someone is described as of 'Asian' descent that will generally signify from the subcontinent (Pakistan, India Bangladesh, not Middle Eastern), rather than anything else. If a person was of Chinese descent they'd be generally described as 'Chinese',etc.

Do you still think that's happened in the recent past?

I forget if it was the 9-11 Commission or Senate report, but one of them disclosed new intel that Khobar Towers was actually a joint venture between Hezbollah and AQ, between Shia and Sunni, blowing the old canard of the "experts" out of the water. Of course, the MSM buried it.

You know, the burning question is, and it has been asked by Rush Limbaugh just a couple of weeks ago, "do we want to fight the Iranians before or after they have nuclear weapons?" Because war with Iran is a question of when not if.

I have made the point repeatedly on this site that Iran has been at war with us since the fanatical shia coup of 1979. The problem for us, is that they have been aggressive and we have been on the receiving end. They violated international law by allowing the "students" (Mahmoud the Mad was one of them) to seize our embassy in Teheran. They sacked the place like the Huns sacked Baghdad in the 1200's. They incarcerated and tortured our embassy staff for 444 days. They were instrumental in providing the support to the hezzies to kill over 200 Marines in Beirut back in 1983. There are many more examples of incidents which in my mind provide for a casus belli.

In sum the West cannot allow a terrorist state such as Iran, actually the epicenter of world terrorism, to acquire nuclear weapons. A messianic martyr complex with nukes is a dangerous thing.

Yep. Based on BS tonnage he might count for the "three still at large."

9/11 Panel Links Al Qaeda, Iran Bin Laden May Have Part in Khobar Towers, Report Says By Dan Eggen Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, June 26, 2004; Page A12

... the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks has concluded that Osama bin Laden's terrorist network had long-running contacts with Iraq's neighbor and historic foe, Iran.

Al Qaeda, the commission determined, may even have played a "yet unknown role" in aiding Hezbollah militants in the 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers complex ...

If you were referring to the Jean Charles De Menezes case then, contrary to the very earliest reports, he didn't run from police and there was no warning for him to stop (this would have been contrary to the Met Police procedure for dealing with suspected suicide bombers which said that a warning should not be given).

He also wasn't wearing a bulky jacket and didn't jump the ticket barrier at the station, which also featured in early reports.

Why does the UK keep letting these hummus heads into their country?

The problem is that they were born in the UK, have British Passports and can enter the US without a visa. Exactly why AQ prizes them for recruitment.
