Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
U.S. News ^ | August 9, 2006 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 08/10/2006 9:48:23 AM PDT by new yorker 77

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

WOW!

Such vitriol from such a moral . . . whatever.

All these new attacks on me after you apologized for your prior name calling. I forgive you. I hope that the Lord does too, but first you will have to acknowledge your backsliding into nastiness and ask for his forgiveness.

ps -- I never realized that 'troll' and 'phony' were terms of endearment. It must have been in the relentless manner in which you repeated it that makes it all warm and fuzzy. Thank you for clarifying that for me. I've learned so much. I shall be forever grateful.

Vitriol? HA! You have the corner on that one, babycakes.

I do admire your stellar defense of the troll, however.

Too bad you don't have the same attitude toward the good guys........you know?? Us conservatives??

Now quit bothering me, OK? You said "Good-bye" two days ago, and yet you won't leave me alone........... :)

Oh..........about that ps of yours..........trolls aren't 'dear' to me like they are to you. No call to use 'terms of endearment' for pseudo-con impostors.

I'll leave that to you.

NOW you can leave me alone. I have conservative activism to do............you know, actually working to elect real live conservatives to public office, working for smaller government, tax cuts, the sanctity of life and marriage, and against illegal immigration........you know, conservative stuff...... and not just whining and moaning, and calling people names on the Internet, like you do.

Bye, buy, sweetray.

So how would a RAT be any better?

The Rat won't be better. I know that I've said that at least 100 times, but I may not have been explicit here.

So why report on him?

I post truth and facts. You can decide what you what you will do with that information. Some will accept the lesser evil. Some will close their eyes and ears and will deny the evidence in front of them. Some will say that his behavior is unacceptable. I just don't want people to vote for him thinking that he is the conservative that he has claimed to be when there is ample evidence that he's not.

I've been called a liar and a basher, but no one has been able to point to a lie and I'm not sure how reporting his record is bashing, especially when he's bragging about it.

Isn't the lesser evil better?

That's for you to decide for yourself. For me it isn't. I see him, in his position of power, as bad enough to do real damage to this nation while pretending to be conservative.

This 'slow train/fast train to socialism' comparison that some make between the parties is nonsense. We're still heading to socialism regardless of the speed. The GOP has't even slowed it down much less reversed direction. We need to reverse direction if we are to survive as a nation and pass on to our children an America that resembles the country we were given to safeguard.

To me, if we are going to 'fix' America, we have to start with a party represented by people who love the Idea that America represents, not just the place that America is.

A GOP populated by Dem-lites will not get the job done. I'm willing to risk having a junior senator from the minority party hold the office until the next election if we remove someone who has been co-opted and/or corrupted by the power and perks and privileges that being a Beltway Insider offers to all who succumb to her wiles.

It was hard keeping up with you, Ray. I've never seen one lone freeper level so many inane, false charges and bottom dwelling personal attacks on anyone on a single thread in my five and a half years on this forum.

Oh, sure you have.

I'm goin' to pop some popcorn...

PS Thank God for the Club of Growth and their efforts in defeating Rinos across the nation and their continuing efforts.

I'm so happy my new congressmen got their support. Of course, the election is still coming but that's only a formality in my district.

They have several exciting new candidates recently. And they've done something unusual: gone to bat for an incumbent Republican (Chris Chocola, IN-02). Clearly, an incumbent who deserves conserative support. Too bad our president and Karl Rove don't seem as interested in this rock-ribbed conservative congressman as the Club is.

I'm feeling good after our victories in Michigan-07 and Colorado-05 on top of our other victories this year.

Tomorrow, they announce their endorsements of three Senate candidates. I assume this is in addition to Laffey.

Hopefully, your candidates will merit your support once in office. Still, it's hard to find any Dim to recommend to anyone.

I'm so hoping for the defeat of my own Democrat senator. And tons of people here at FR seem to just love him. Me, I just don't get cheering for any of the Dims during election season. We need to get rid of this lib Right Now!

I'm glad we have a deep-pockets GOP challenger. Spent millions on his primary alone. So I'm hopeful he can prevail in November.

"Most conservatives no longer call themselves Republicans. I'm a REAL conservative, and the Republican party has left people like me behind."

May I ask you dear, just where will you go?

It is far, far too early to pout those lips and put on your, "I just won't do it", britches.

Don't you think we best see who, what, when, where and why, Before we make an ill formed decision?

And I say this, as one who has been a REAL, dyed in the wool conservative, probably longer than you are old. ;-)

Well, okay. So when can we pout and get our britches out?

And, don't forget, the terrorists have a real knack for bad timing in their attacks. They are bound to give the Repubs reason to win before the election.

From my perspective, we'all can't win without each other. All Republicans and Conservatives should work together to defeat these unpatriotic dems before they give the store away to the Islamo-facists.

Well, from the sound of things ;-) It would appear, that has already happened. ;-)

I would think we needed to see who the nominees were first.
Why rail against the party when the nominee is the one who sets the tone......and brings about change.

Hey! I like your name!

Badray has been consumed by Santorum hatred, because Badray's still carrying a torch for Toomey.

The day Toomey lost was The Day That Time Stopped for Badray, and he's going to spend the rest of his days beating the rest of us with what a "true conservative" is--per his rolling definition, of course.

By any reasonable, logical, emotionally stable standard in the world, Rick Santorum is a very conservative legislator. That is not to say that he is ideal, or that he is without faults...it's saying, that, in comparison, he's way, way up there.

But Badray won't rest until Santorum goes down in defeat.

Pathetic thing about Badray is, even if his dream come true comes true, what he gets in the Senate is a lapdog liberal puppet (Casey) that will yip and drool the way Hillary tells him to.

Hey, Badray, Toomey asked me to tell you that he never really liked you. You were too intense, you came on too fast, you made him feel really, really uncomfortable. He's thinking of reporting you for stalking.

On this subject (here's hoping there's only one), Badray is a true bad apple, with a cognitive disorder so ingrained the only therapy might be electroshock. Might be.

Badray, it's people like you who give Freepers a bad name. Spare me your rants about your "opinion" and "conviction"--we're all pretty sure we get it, now that you've spent two years and two million words beating us up with them.

In case anyone was wondering (Admin?), that was positively personal, and if it means I'm thrown off FR, it was worth it.

I don't believe you.

If you meant it, you'd have pinged the mod yourself or written an opus and left.

But then, I don't expect anything resembling the truth from you anyway. Personal attacks are your stock in trade.

BTW, no one -- none, zilch, zip, zero, nada -- has refuted any of my posts regarding his votes. The posts are true and accurate, as is my conclusion. Your mileage obviously differs.

BTW2, If Santorum is such a staunch fiscal conservative, and Toomey is the head of an organization that supports fiscal conservatives, why hasn't the CFG endorsed Santorum?

Toomey has personally, but the CFG hasn't. Why? Could it be that he doesn't have the record to back up a claim of fiscal conservatism and that endorsing Santorum would destroy the reputation of the Club?

You bet your sweet bippy that's why.

Santorum is not conservative. He may be a Republican, but these days, that doesn't mean much.

I think I'm staying out of this one.

I've seen enough of Badray right here to know that he has deep problems that only he (and perhaps a therapist or minister) can deal with.

And I sure as shooting know that I'm more conservative than he is.

As for Santorum. Anyone who doesn't care if a liberal is elected in his place is not only not a conservative, but not likely much concerned about America either.

As far as I'm concerned this is the issue that divides the wheat from the tares on this forum. And those who are actively working against Republicans certainly aren't the wheat....

I'm just rank-and-file with the Club but I've never seen them endorse without offering financial support as well. Santorum's real problem isn't money. It's a lot of liberal voters and a bunch of Republicans who don't like his conduct and votes. The Club's support means just about na-da without their money.

JohnRob has a point though. If you're a Tommey fan (like so many of us were/are), support the Club and its candidates. I found it especially delicious how Toomey worked to defeat Spectre's little crop of Mini-Me's in recent elections. That was pretty funny stuff. Spectre was furious.

Toomey's been sending me a bunch of emails. He's salivating to get Chafee. You can readily understand why. And, if left to lead the Club for a decade or more, Toomey may well have far more impact than he ever would have as a senator. Anyway, it's a thought. There's always more than one way to skin a mule.

If we want to knock off a RINO, start with Chafee, surely far worse than Santorum. But then, he doesn't represent you so you'll have to follow your own judgment.

I used to like Santorum. But when he supported Specter and published that book, I started looking closer and decided I didn't really like what I saw there. But maybe that's the best Pennsylvania can do. Santorum still isn't in the same league with the uber-RINOs (who I won't name for the sake of peace on the thread) but you know exactly who they are.
