Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
U.S. News ^ | August 9, 2006 | Paul Bedard

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

I don't believe you have any idea what controlling the Congress actually means in terms of committees and procedure.

Hi there:

It is left hell. I grew up in Katonah and now live in Northern Dutchess County but still commute to Westchester to work daily.

I noticed however that up by me which is about 125 miles north of NYC, there are a ton of Support Our Troops bumperstickers and American Flags on cars. Lotta NRA memebers too.

So it is really NYC and down state that cancels the votes state wide. Keep plugging at it FReeper.

: )

Well, as stated above, poor old banned beeler kept a great thread BUMPed all day yesterday.

We conservatives should be grateful to the troll for helping to get the good news out. :)

If you have no better response than to create a BS strawman like that, you better quit.

Do you understand the difference between a person electing a representative who will vote to increase their benefits and the personal right to procreate AND the responsibility to pay for their upbringing?

Of course you don't.

Is it not possible to admire and respect a politician and still think that he made a serious error?

I love Reagan, but amnesty was a major mistake. Rather than repeat it, we should learn from it and avoid it.

It is a very real possibility though, that we will lose our freedom to ourselves. American politicians are much more dangerous to our way of life than any camel humping islamofacist.

That is the post of the day. There is no power on earth that can defeat us militarily and enslave us except our own government. What ever happened to the days of "Give me liberty or give me death"?

I certainly do and you obviously didn't follow the thread. You walked in in the middle and took me out of context.

Next time read the friggin thread...the jump on your high horse.

Be ready for the "voting irregularities" when Dems lose. Of course, there are never any when they win. Unless you count the dead, illegal, felon and double voters.

Thanks for the reply! If you spot a "Support Our Troops" bumper sticker next time you're in Katonah/Bedford, give a honk. It's probably me!

As another poster said on one of the other iterations of this thread, us Republicans and conservatives are fuming mad and the nutroots and libscum. Most of us just aren't that vocal about it. We'll let our votes do our talking for us.

I'm predicting a disaster -- for Democraps in 2006. They're had move to the left virtually ensures it...

Most true Republicans and conservatives I know carp a lot about GW and the GOP. Libs take that to mean we aren't going to vote or we're going to vote left/center. After all, if you don't march lock-step with libs, they turn on you (e.g., Lieberman). No dissent allowed.

In contrast, we on the right often disagree with each other, but that's OK. We know come voting time that there's one thing we absolutely DO agree on: Democraps in power is scary and dangerous.

It's like a big family that argues all the time, but when push comes to shove, we back each other...

I read every freaking post on this thread.

I didn't take you out of context. He said that those dependent on the government should not be allowed to vote because to do so would be to allow them to vote for increasing their own benefits.

Somehow, you tried to spin that into him deciding who can reproduce. All he was advocating is personal responsibility.
