Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
U.S. News ^ | August 9, 2006 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 08/10/2006 9:48:23 AM PDT by new yorker 77

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

Right. You said "grow up." BIG difference. I apologize for misleading the American people. Now that I've grown up, can we keep this public?

Thank for admitting you purposely lied about a private communication.

Now please knock off the childish name calling and address any points you wish to make on the subject of the thread or my posts in an adult manner or go amuse yourself in a different way.

We gave the Republicans all the power there was to give and we've become more of a Socialist country. It's very disheartening.

Things didn't go exactly your way.

None of us are happy with everything the Republican Party does, but your alternative really sucks!

You can cry, whine, throw tantrums from now to eternity, but the "perfect" political party is a fantasy. After all, they are all politicians and we are only able to select the lesser of evils.

I can't help but think you're still too "wet behind the ears" to have figured this out yet.

Thank you....All I ever have to do when doubt creeps into my mind is simply, "look into the eyes of my grandchildren."

This isn't Mayberry anymore.

I didn't say they weren't horrible. I just have more faith that the country could survive what ever damage the Dems could do. Besides, the more they mess up, the more people wake up and the more militant conservatives become. In light of all your good points, we are still trying to tackle Islamofacism with kid gloves. The Republicans haven't learned from their own ad campaigns.

So you don't have faith that the country wouldn't let that happen?

As far as I'm concerned voting for Harold Ford Jr in TN is not an option!

This yellow dog pub will be at the polls in November.

Oh, for heaven's sake!

I was very happy when my kids got past the age of 12 so I wouldn't have to have these kinds of 'discussions.'

Good-bye, protozoa.

And stop whining. I never post abuse on whiners........especially those who invent things to whine about.

Let me be honest with those rational folks (not you) reading this thread before I leave you alone.

I had no intention of 'lying' when I said you called me a name. It was the equivalent. I never lie.........EVER. And everyone on this forum knows that.

I apologize for misleading anyone.

Now leave me alone. In public and in private.

You have that little faith in your own country, that we could be completely destroyed by the Dems? Hell would freeze over first. But it might have to come close to that to wake up the masses.

A positive thread is once again attempted to be sabotaged by tools of the doom and gloom left.

Failing to ruin reality at every turn.

So you think the 3,000 people who lost their lives in the World Trade Center are an acceptable level of liberal damages...because you survived?

Unbelievable!

I have faith that we conservatives, excluding cowbody fake conservatives like you, aren't going to let that happen.

But I believe that, if given the chance, the Dems will destroy this country and undo every single thing we've accomplished in the last six years.

The very first thing they will do is try to dismantle the Electoral College.

Then you won't EVER have to worry about who to vote for again.

Serious, question...do you honestly see the country going in a non-Socialist direction now that we have given all the reins of power to the Republicans? If I could genuinely answer that question in the affirmative, I would be with you, but I don't. I'm sorry, but I have no faith in the Republicans. They have squandered all that we fought to give them.

There are freepers who are either fatalists or leftist trolls who are angry by the reality of this story in U.S. News.

To vent their frustration, they attempt to crap on this story with the pessimism and defeatism similar to the most anti-American leftists.

The ferocity of their flailing shows the desperation
of their failed position.

Good grief...now you are quoting Vladmir Lenin.

Will your next quote come from Mao's book?

This is NOT a national election. Who is your specific senator? Representative? What is the voting record of the specific republican in your local race(s) ? Why are you voting for or against these specific people?

I told you mine. I'm voting for Bob Corker because I hate Harold Ford's family, and Corker governed center-right as Chattanooga's mayor. I'll vote for the Kovack in the 5th district congressional race (he's as conservative as they come), but he has no chance to unseat Jim Cooper. Do y'all even know who your local candidates are?

This is NOT a national election. You don't GET to vote for "generic republican" or "generic democrat".
