Bush: US at war with Islamic fascists
US president says plot foiled by Britain to blow up flights to United States Stark reminder that America is At war with Islamic fascists
Reuters
US President George W. Bush said on Thursday a plot foiled by Britain to blow up flights to the United States was a Stark reminder that the United States is At war with Islamic fascists.
Bush said that the United States was safer than before the Sept. 11 attacks, but it was still not completely safe and it would be a mistake to believe there was no longer a threat.
Bush launched a global war on terrorism after the 2001 hijacked plane attacks on New York and Washington killed nearly 3,000 people. Faced with public discontent over the 3-year-old war in Iraq, he often tells Americans the threat remains.
Bush, speaking briefly on a visit to Green Bay, Wisconsin, said the foiled plane plot was ...A stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom, to hurt our nation.
The US Government heightened security on passenger planes and barred air travelers from carrying liquids on Thursday after Britain said it had foiled the plot.
US Officials said the aim was to blow up the planes in flight. Two officials said there were no signs the attacks were directed at any one city, but they might have taken place on flights heading to major US cities.
Al-Qaeda?
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the Islamic militant group al Qaeda might have been involved.
This operation is in some respects suggestive of an al Qaeda plot, but because the investigation is still under way, we cannot yet form a definitive conclusion. Were going to wait until all the facts are in, He told a news conference.
White House spokesman Tony Snow said Bush had talked twice by phone with British Prime Minister Tony Blair about the plot -- on Sunday and Wednesday. Bush called the cooperation with Britain, the chief US Ally in Iraq, excellent.
The Department of Homeland Security said it took the unprecedented step of raising the threat level for commercial flights originating in the United Kingdom to Severe Or red, its highest level.
The threat level for all other commercial aircraft operating in or destined for the United States would be raised to High, or orange, Chertoff said.
The United States said the plot involved liquid explosive ingredients, and US Homeland Security barred passengers from carrying liquids, including beverages, hair gels and lotions, aboard planes.

Finnish FM: Israel destroying Lebanon, not Hizbullah
Erkki Tuomioja: Europeans never believed there was a military solution to the conflict in Lebanon... Everyone always seems to think they have to come out in a position where they can declare military victory when in reality everyone has lost'
Reuters
Israel could be destroying Lebanon while leaving the guerrilla group Hizbullah intact, Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said on Thursday. Tuomioja also said it was Very frustrating that it was so difficult to reach agreement on a ceasefire, because the Europeans never believed there was a military solution to the conflict in Lebanon, now in its fifth week.
The real worry ... Is if you (Israel) set out to destroy Hizbullah, you may end up destroying Lebanon but leaving Hizbullah intact. Unfortunately that seems to have happened, The minister, whose country holds the European Unions rotating presidency, told Reuters in an interview.
'A fact of life'
Israel, without opposition from its ally the United States, decided on Wednesday to expand its ground offensive, after failing during the first four weeks to achieve its original military objectives against the Hizbullah guerrillas. Israel has said it wants to drive the guerrillas back from the Israeli border so they cannot fire rockets into Israel.
The European Union has called for an immediate end to hostilities while the United States has argued against a ceasefire until there is agreement on long-term security arrangements including a way to disarm Hizbullah.
Tuomioja said: Everyone always seems to think they have to come out in a position where they can declare military victory when in reality everyone has lost. This is a fact of life. This is the same for Hizbullah.
He said European governments were still willing to consider taking part in a peacekeeping force in south Lebanon, under the right conditions and with a strong mandate. But he added: The longer this continues, the more difficult it will be, because the risk will be perceived to have grown and the willingness to contribute will become less.
An Israeli attack which killed four UN observers in south Lebanon on July 25 had made it politically difficult for Finland and Austria to send forces, he added. A Finn and an Austrian were among the four observers.

That reads a bit more honestly...I know you weren't trying to change the intent.
IMO, Homeland security should immediately void all cellphone purchases and delete all available minutes on these phones purchased at places like K-Mart. Give them case refunds...if they show up in person, have their photo and ID checked. ;^)
If they can't trace or track them, render them useless.

Don't bother reading it.....So much allah-fubar crapola
I post it only as a rebuttal to 9/11 conspiracy nuts
People have talked once again how hardcore the islamic ghettos (or enclaves, if you prefer) in the UK are...more radical, probably, than the people back in Pakistan...the barbarians are not at the gates, their inside being nurtured by the ones they want to destroy....
Mention, not discussion, of potential diplomatic breakthrough at UN on Fox...but then they shifted.
Peretz Will Not Announce Date for New Offensive
19:45 Aug 10, '06 / 16 Av 5766
(IsraelNN.com) Defense Minister Amir Peretz said Thursday he will not tip off Hizbullah terrorists by announcing in advance if and when the IDF will widen its retaliation in Lebanon. The government has given the green light for the army to advance at least to the Litani River in an effort to keep Hizbullah terrorists out of range from Israel.
He said a widened offensive would be carried out only if diplomatic moves fail. United States State Department David Welch is meeting with government officials at this hour in a last ditch attempt to save a proposed draft resolution from crumbling.

My imagination batteries are run down today.
I believe so, but I'm no longer in Texas. I had to return to North Carolina several years ago due to family obligations, but I still remain a "Texan by Choice". /grin
