A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

No one will be allowed to get out of their seat, the seatbelt lights will remain on, and anyone attempting to break those rules will deal with the FBI upon landing.I am buying adult diapers, and stock in those that make them. Until we exterminate the muzzie threat and may once again fly the friendly skies.

Are there any Brits in England anymore? I though it was ALL Moslem at this point.
YES! There's Brits in England.
You are very much mistaken if you think there's only Muslim's there.

Something in Mentos makes diet soda explode into effervescence . . . imagine shaking up a warm Diet Coke and opening it up.

BBC just said that those who have baby formula and milk will have to drink it in front of airline personnel to make sure it is not a liquid explosive. Also, all incoming flights to Heathrow have been canceled.

There will be some statements by private industry in the later morning. This has been the debate in my house this morning. My libertarian son swears we will just kowtow to any restrictions rather than upset muzzies.
I think that at some point, private industry is going to step in - if they do it with their own security forces, private airlines with vetted memberships, something. This is a huge country. Business is not going to take 3-4 days to go coast to coast by train to get things done, nor are people going to leave their laptops and business papers at the mercy of the thieves in baggage handling. I know my flying days will be numbered if I have to fly across the friggin' country without a cup of tea or a soda and I can't have my mp3 player - or shoot, maybe not even a book.
Man, this could get nasty if these emergency measures become standard.
