A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

The current security checks seem to back up that theory. I just head from a colleague that one of the ONLY things anyone is being allowed to carry-on is baby milk or baby food, but that people are only being allowed to take that on board if you are willing to drink/eat some in front of the secuirty folk first!
This is another wake up call to the voters in America that the cut and run Democrats aren't who you want to trust with your life.
Hate to make this in any way a political issue, but this whole thing underlines there is a real war on terror and that terror is at war with the rest of the world.

I've heard it explained by those in the know that the reason ours doesn't go up above orange and has stayed yellow for a long time is because our security measures have improved since 9/11. Unlike the local threat levels, NYC has been code orange since 9/11.
Stupid question .. but besides a stomach ache .. what would Liquid explosives do to a terrorist if he/she/it sipped it to pass the check points??
