A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.
SY briefing in about 10 minutes.
They just uncovered a plot and said that they didn't think it was going to happen today.
Something doesn't make sense. Just blowing up 6 planes wouldn't be worse than 9/11. Most Trans-Atlantic planes don't seat more than 300 these days (especially those flying from Glasgow, Manchester and Edinburgh). 300 x 6 = 1,800. There has to be more to this story.
Like I said yesterday, it's too damned early for these cut-and-run Bush-hating cowards to be popping champagne corks. It's a long ways to November.
Allegra - was just thinking about you earlier in this thread and hoping things were quiet there for you all.
Take care.
Mooselimbs bent on mischief seem to come up with obviously cockamamie stories an incredible percentage of the time.
Just the usual today...car bombs.
I feel safer with the devil I know vs. that weird stuff going on in Europe. Strange, I know...
a wet run you mean?
God Bless the men and women that worked to foil this terrorist plot.

Amen to that...We should be so thankful for the people working so hard to keep us safe from these monsters.
July 27, 2006- LONDON
We already know their spin -- Bush's fault, but that's not going to sell.
My wife and I have informal plans to go to Jamaica/Cayman Islands/Dominican Republic in the future and I certainly don't want to lose that option due to a bunch of wacko ragheads.
The easiest solution is to continue the current British regulations on not bringing anything on board but your wallet and necessary meds, basically. Include with that a small bag with a couple changes of clothes that is fully hand-searched and x-rayed before the flight. Any liquids or toiletries needed can be purchased at the destination. Hotels usually will supply that stuff free of charge anyway.
That method of security can continue until my plan of eliminating all Muslims from the earth (outlined briefly in my previous post) is completed. Then things can return to normal for the freedom-loving, good, non-insane people of the world.
Until then, we must lie in the bed that PC nutjobs who don't want to "offend" or "profile" air passengers have made for us.
As far as getting everyone together to do business...that's BS in my book. It's just an excuse to have a big expense account and tell the people at your country club that you wine and dine in exotic locations. Get a webcam, a good web conferencing setup, and a good set of pc speakers and save a bundle of money for your company, shareholders and customers.
If crap like what's happening tonight keeps up, there won't be anyone wanting to fly anyway, and the airlines will go bye-bye, or need government subsidy to operate.
Some is as thin as .042 of an inch.
Oh no .. didn't mean you .. I was being sarcastic .. sorry.
Thanks. I didn't hear a definited time schedule mentioned and since there are still outbound flights, I got very confused.
I'll keep you and yours in my prayers too!
Absolutely. They are losing money as it is while we speak.
I think you're half right. Most of it comes from the reporters themselves...another angle to the story.
But, I guarantee you, there are passengers with BDS who will react to this the way they always do: Bush/Blair are just trying to frighten people into supporting their war-mongering agenda...and then they'll start complaining about the inconvenience.
