President and Mrs. Bush continue their stay at Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas. Today's activities, per Tony Snow, included: "The President this morning received his briefings from his national security team. He did have a bike ride. He has had a private lunch. I don't know who it's with, because it's none of my business. And he has also been talking on the phones today with the National Security Advisor, the Secretary of State."
Text of Tony Snow's press briefing today. It includes a lot of information on a variety of issues, particularly the numerous, serious international events in play right now.
Hi PMM, you're welcome.
It's nice to have the WH archives during a photo drought.
Ever see the Bush Beans commercial where Duke the dog says he won't tell the secret of the Bush bean recipes?
It's funny.
Hi Gretchen! My son's 2nd grade class read the book and then colored and mailed a Flat Stanley to a relative, friend, etc with instructions that they take Flat Stanley touring with pix and a journal. Ours went to visit an uncle in Alaska. One kids went to Afghanistan and stayed with the troops! They all had a great time. I sent you a private reply as well. My son is now 13 and still has his Flat Stanley. I LOVE the one with Dr Rice pointing at him! And sitting next to Karl Rove! OF all places!!!!!
Many thanks! I'm on Toaster #2 (but who's counting?)
I AM.

A FEW MORE LITTLE FACTS
By Ben Stein
Published 8/8/2006 12:09:45 AM
Here are a few little facts you might like to know:
When the Israelis capture Arabs in their wars, the captured Arabs are well fed, well housed, and eventually returned to their homes. When the Arabs (specifically the Syrians) have captured Israelis, they castrate them, cut off their male organs, decapitate the Israelis, and stuff their male organs in their mouths and leave the bodies on the field. Sometimes they also defecate on the bodies.
Israel has a population of about six million Jews. If a rocket hits a group of Israelis who are lying in the sun and kills 12 of them, that is the equivalent of the United States losing 600 men in one rocket attack. If nine Israeli civilians are killed in a rocket attack on a Haifa repair shop, that is the equivalent of the USA losing 540 civilians in one swoop.
Hezbollah is basically an arm of the Iranian army. Iran has a population of close to 70 million. Hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, are eager to join the fight against Eretz Israel. Even if by some miracle Israel wiped out every Hezbollah killer in Lebanon tomorrow, Iran could easily replace them forever. Resupplying the missilery is child's play: just buy it from China, our dear friends, who will sell it to anyone. This means Israel is in for an extremely prolonged, agonizing period of suffering.
For anyone with even a sliver of sensitivity to see this happening to a people who have already suffered more than any other people in history, is torture. TO SEE GEORGE W BUSH STAND UP FOR ISRAEL WHILE THE LEFT WHINES ABOUT TOTALLY MEANINGLESS MULTILATERALISM -- which means asking France to defend Israel, sort of like asking Martin Bormann to defend Israel -- IS TO SEE CLEAR DECENCY VERSUS A WAFFLING, AGE-OLD ANTI-SEMITIC SICKNESS.
The line of the fight between civilization and barbarism runs right along the Israel-Lebanon non-border. If it's not won there, it won't be long until the front line is right here, and then it will be too late. WHEN GEORGE BUSH STANDS UP FOR ISRAEL, HE STANDS UP FOR THE WHOLE FUTURE OF MANKIND. Yes, he has flaws and has made serious mistakes, but right now, HE IS A HERO FOR THE AGES.

BOXING HEZBOLLAH IN
Bret Stephens has an interesting, but only half-correct, article about the cease-fire deal over at Opinion Journal. He gets it right when he points out that if Hezbollah rejects the cease-fire, then everything has worked out well for the US and Israel - but he gets it wrong when he states that if Hezbollah accepts, then the US and Israel are in a bad position.
The theory of a bad position stems from the fact that part of the cease-fire deal is a multinational force to secure southern Lebanon against a return of Hezbollah. Of course such an international force is (a) not likely to materialise and (b) if it does present itself, it will make itself as toothless as possible in order not to offend Hezbollah. The worry is that Hezbollah will fight until just this side of collapse, accept the cease-fire, proclaim victory, and then re-arm under the protection of the multinational force until its ready to have another go at Israel. This is an understandable worry given the history of cease-fires and multinational forces in the middle east - but it is not understandable when one considers just what President Bush is demanding in this cease-fire.

A FEW THOUGHTS ON THE EVE OF COURIC
[Another brilliant analysis/commentary from THE ANCHORESS]
. . . I have often wondered if the devolution of the press in general and the mainstream broadcast media in particular didnt have to do with the fact that a year after 9/11, President Bushs poll numbers were still in the stratosphere. I began noticing that his more visionary speeches, such as his commencement address at West Point and this one at Whitehall went under-covered, with major networks actually cutting away from Whitehall in mid-speech, and (C-Span never replaying it), and I thought that was pretty interesting - and troubling. Broadcast medias coverage of all things regarding Bush, the War on Terror and the issue of WMDs underwent remarkable changes between the years 2002 and 2006, particularly re WMD, which the press suddenly seemed content to pretend no one had ever mentioned, prior to President Bush.
News delivery is now being fueled by emotionalism, which has gummed up a powerful engine. Things have gotten so far out of hand that broadcast media are now occasionally admitting that they are not even in control of some of what were seeing.

POLLING UPDATE . . .
Results from the last four MAJOR MSM POLLS indicate that the President's JA is back to the 40 percentile range! Given that these pollsters routinely OVERSAMPLE Democrats/Democrat-leaning Independents by 7-12 points (and Rasmussen has become just as bad), the President's actual JA rating is probably in the mid to high 40s among 'adults' and the high 40s to low 50s among 'likely voters'.
40% ABC/Washington Post 8/3-6/06
40% CNN 8/2-3/06
40% L.A. Times/Bloomberg 7/28 - 8/1/06
40% USA Today/Gallup 7/28-30/06 http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm
South Park radiohead
I've seen it and I have to give the Bush Beans folks credit for a cute idea.
Re Ben Stein's article:
how you treat your enemies in war
really does depend on the God (or god) one serves.

I jsut put on the one I posted. but i used the BIG file.. 10,000 KB.. wouldn't people be POd for that to be posted (and the mods would have it yanked in 4 seconds!).. prolly should change it as it uses a lot of resources & I rarely look at my desktop~!
Thanks! Y'all are gonna hear ALL about my internship...well...whatever's not classified anyway! ;)
Wow, thanks, y'all! I feel loved :)
