Venezuela 'to sever Israel ties' (Chavez says Israel committing "new Holocaust")
BBC News ^ | August 9, 2006

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, has said his country is likely to sever ties with Israel in protest at its military offensive in Lebanon. Mr Chavez said he had "no interest" in maintaining relations with Israel, whom he has accused of committing genocide.

Venezuela recalled its charge d'affaires to Israel last week, prompting Israel to withdraw its ambassador to Caracas on Monday.

Mr Chavez recently expressed his support for Israel's arch-foe, Iran.

In a televised speech, Mr Chavez said he had "no interest in maintaining diplomatic relations, or offices, or businesses, or anything with a state like Israel".

Mr Chavez rounded on Israel at the weekend, accusing the Jewish state of committing a "new Holocaust".

"Israel has gone mad. It's attacking, doing the same thing to the Palestinian and Lebanese people that they have criticised - and with reason - the Holocaust. But this is a new Holocaust."

The Venezuelan president has also angered Israel by showing support for Iran, which backs Hezbollah and has called for Israel's annihilation.

During a visit to Tehran at the end of last month, Mr Chavez said Venezuela would "stand by Iran at any time and under any condition".

Israel said it had withdrawn its ambassador to Venezuela "as an act of protest against the one-sided policy of the president of Venezuela and in light of his wild slurs against the State of Israel".

If there are any Nazi war criminals still around in South America they have a new haven.

He's crying for a form of attention he wouldn't like if recieved.

I am no member of the told you so fraction but engaging Iraq was maybe only the second best idea, demonstrating to the enemy that binding the necessary amount of troops for such actions is a severe inner political problem for the US and the western alliances.

Now the old enemy of Iran is gone and his leader lives under the impression that the US don't post a threat to him. So he longs to be a leader of the (fanatic islamic) arab world - kim ill things likewise only a tiny bit more shy and a guy like chavez would long be history did he live in times of Ronald R..

The Iraq engagement destabilized the world - that was clear and taken into account to bring it to a better status - we will see if we can contain that situation.

In the end something had to be done - maybe other ideas like a massive undermining of organizations like hizbollah the bath party, hamas and al qaida should have had the priority ? You're always more enlightened after church....

Hugo Chavez: Just another petty communist dictator with a big mouth and a serious case of brain rot.

Surprised Chavez is allowed to speak on his own with Fidel out of commission.

Is Mr. Chavez retarded or something?

Even those leftists who support the efforts of the hezbos can't possibly think that the Isreali resistance to them is akin to the holocaust.

Not unless they are goofy, and not just a little bit run-of-the-mill liberal goofy either, but full blown insane.

Time to fit Mr. Chavez for a straight jacket, he really needs help.
