The Israel Air Force yesterday evening shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched from Lebanon. IAF's northern air control unit identified the craft before it crossed the border and dispatched aircraft to intercept it. The UAV was shot down at a low altitude over the Mediterranean Sea, and Israeli naval vessels collected its pieces.
This is the third attempt in the last two years to infiltrate an unmanned aerial vehicle into Israeli airspace from Lebanon. Israel views very gravely any attempt to infiltrate her sovereign territory - whether from the air, the sea, or on land - and will act in all ways necessary to defend her citizens.
"The Hezbollah UAV was shot down approximately ten kilometers from the coast, over the Mediterranean Sea," explained IAF wing commander Brigadier General Yochanan Loker. "As far as we know it was not armed. It would seem this was an attempt at propaganda-based warfare. This UAV had already been sent twice in the past, once a year ago and also half a year before that. This is the third time they sent it. It was intercepted before it crossed the border, while it was still over Lebanese territory."
"The UAV was identified at a low altitude and intercepted by an F-16 using a locally-produced missile," added Loker. "Said UAV was Iranian. The whole incident lasted less than ten minutes, including the identification and interception stages, as the UAV was identified quickly by the northern air control unit."
wow!
10:07 Security cabinet convenes, mulls IDF plan for expanded ground operations (AP)
I hope they don't mull for too long.
I hope they roll right up to te outskirts of Beirut. Then you would see the Lebanese Army turn on Hezbollah. One can hope.
Australia has 4-digit postal codes; if they start counting noses they'll need more digits LOL
All clickable.

Iraq doesn't have postal codes.
Or phone books.
It's going to be quite a task to drag this country into the 21st century. They're closer than they were three years ago, though.
Wait! A country without telemarketers, and you say they're behind us????
The Later model Hezbollah UAV, the Iranian Ababil-2, a rocket launched, push propeller with a canard design, with a parachute retrieval system: This might be the model the Israelis shot down:
10:51 Sirens sound in Haifa and suburbs, Zichron Yaakov, Binyamina, Fureidis (Israel Radio)
They got a late start this morning. Must have slept in.
The Haifa sirens were justified. Rockets just hit near there, per INN. Apparently fell in open space.
LOL!
We have VOIP phones here with Texas phone numbers on them. I kid you not; we've gotten three calls asking us if we want to take delivery on a Dallas newspaper on my line.
The third time I figured what the hey and said I was interested.
It became great fun when they asked me what my delivery address was.
As expected, the stinking, back-stabbing, lazy-assed French have thrown a wrench into the works. So be it. Let Israel bomb Lebanon into the next galaxy. Piss on 'em.
