Three-term Sen. Joe Lieberman trailed in early returns Tuesday, struggling to overcome a tough primary challenge and escape payback from his own party for supporting the Iraq war.
Six years after Democrats backed him for vice president, Lieberman was trailing with 44 percent, or 25,596 votes, to political novice Ned Lamont's 56 percent, or 32,840 votes, with 19 percent of precincts reporting.

Who was the gnome whose shoulders were being pawed by Jesse Jackson when Lamont spoke at the podium? He/she (I honestly couldn't tell -- looked like Harry Potter) kept shrieking like a lunkhead.
Well, yeah. But Chafee, Snowe, and Collins buck a lot of GOP votes too. Once free of the need to cling to Dem party solidarity he would have a freer hand in voting.
Lieberman's loss:
Good for Republicans
Bad for America.
I'm sad because it is even more clear that we only have one party to vote for if we actually believe in a strong America. While I would oppose Democrats anyway on other grounds, they inevitably will be in power at one time or another, and it would be nice to know that at least some of them aren't part of the 'blame-America' crowd. If they weren't before, they will be now.
On the other hand, I'm happy as a Republican. Joe Lieberman was the most popular Senator in America next to John McCain. Can you imagine what would happen if McCain were booted in his Senate primary? We would (deservedly) be ridiculed and pounded by just about everyone.
Still, sad overall, but at least this will make it harder for the nuts to gain power.
Have they filibustered anything yet?
I hope Lamont wins in Nov., cos it would embold the Far Left to go after the lesser liberals in Congress (Etheridge NC-02, Moore KS-03, etc). Also Soros & Co. will draw out the long knives for Bob Casey Jr. in a few years.
The Moonbat Left wouldn't have gone after Lieberman like this if he were from Texas or South Carolina.
Yes. They filibustered judges before, they just filibustered estate tax repeal the other day...but even more than that the threat of a filibuster often keeps things from even coming to the floor for a vote. Also, compromises have often had to be made to prevent filibusters, and those would be unnecessary with a bigger majority.
