amnesty am-nes-ty -n 1. a general pardon for offenses against a government
Ours is a history and a spirit of sacrifice and of self-determination. It is a tradition of independence, of self-reliance, of hard work, of courage and of responsibility. We are a civilization, built on principles, a legacy of freedom and a society of laws. THIS IS OUR CULTURE, and it is as unique and as deserving of respect as any other. To become an American means to stand up in unwavering support and in reverence of these essential things, to belong to something that is larger and more powerful than any individual, and to accept this culture as your own. It means not a surrender of your heritage, but an integration of your way of life into that which is American.
If you choose to not subscribe to these ideals... get out of our country.

I contend that our own government is the enemy this time.

Our government is not our enemy. The enemy are those natural individuals who hold the positions of authority. People are bad the basic structure of the old US of A is good!

The Alamo was a conflict between
Texas and Mexico, not
the United States and Mexico.
Most, though not necessarily all, aliens from Mexico are not coming into the country to have a second Reconquista (the first was the Spanish driving out the Moors).

GWB, KarLaRazaRove, Chertoff, and Gonzales should read this and get a dose of reality and stop waging war on the American Taxpayer.

Get a grip there, pocket monster, before folks start believing you're one of the paid pundits here who seize every technical error in a death grip while leaking clues that they weren't raised in this culture.
Everyone here knows that the Alamo was about Texas and Mexico - while the larger story was about the United States not sending support in a timely fashion...seems the same old "wait until it's too late" solution was as popular then as it is now. What's important is that the phrase "Remember the Alamo" has been a rallying cry adopted by this country whenever seemingly insurmountable odds need to be confronted with force of will.

Succinctly on point. You pointed out that no one demands immigrants to totally abandon their culture, ethnicity or beliefs - merely hold more loyalty for the nation that took them in than the one they left while making an effort to adapt to the norms and language millions of others have.
The majority of illegals here have arrived during a time when diversity and cultural identity have achieved near-religious regard among the unelected government bureaucracy that's supposed to eject them for the sake of the people paying their salaries - US! Our elected officials can correct this trend if they can muster up the courage to. I regard Tancredo's growing coalition as the agent to eventually accomplish that necessary task.
But it's a race against time.

Polio has been eradicated from Mexico and Latin America. India, Nigeria, and a handful of other countries are supposed to be the only ones with the disease remaining.

Whether or not "reconquista" is anything many aliens from Mexico think about, very many of them do in fact believe that the Southwest belongs to Mexico. This fact plays very strongly in their opinions of the U.S. and their right to be here in spite of our laws.

Kinda like how I feel when I, a hard working taxpayer who relies on no one but myself for my daily bread, am held up in line at the grocery store by some welfare parasite buying $500 worth of steaks and chicken and paying with food stamps.
Or when my girlfriend's car was demolished by a drunken illegal who got nothing more than a couple hours in the county lockup for his crime.
Give it time, my FRiend. The popular backlash is growing, and will reach critical mass soon.

Local school officials are forced to deal with a large population of children who do not speak English nor do they possess legal documentation that is required of American-born or legally naturalized citizens. The problem is that most local school officials WANT more poor kids in their schools! More poor kids = more funding = more programs = more jobs for teachers and administrators.

Border states need to send in the national guard to stem the flood of illegals slurping down free, taxpayer funded social benefits.. The rest of us need to find the eleven ferral Egyptians gone missing and gone wild.
