Analysis of Israeli / Hezbollah War, Pres. Bush, Condi Rice, Hugh Hewitt, and Starlancer

I am very disappointed in the way things appear to be going in the war between Israel and Hezbollah and the efforts of the rest of the world to bring a de-escalation in the fighting.

President Bush has been working hard writing a peace and ceasefire agreement for Israel and Hezbollah. It infuriates me to think that we are spending our time writing truces with terrorists who's only life goal is the genocide of Israel and the annihilation of western civilization. We must look incredibly ridiculous to the enemy. Bush's attempt to make peace with Muslim terrorists is in complete contradiction with his previous position of confronting and ending terrorist threats.

President Bush said that it's a shame that lives have been lost on both sides in this recent event. I don't think it's a shame at all when the enemy is killed. It's called victory. Bush wants to put a multinational peace keeping force between Israel and Lebanon. I hope that multinational peace keeping forces like to get blown up by Muslim suicide bombers, IDEs, and unguided rocket attacks, because that's what will happen. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that both Israel and Lebanon have to adhere to the ceasefire resolution. Notice now that we're talking about Lebanon and not just Hezbollah. This is proof that Lebanon and Hezbollah are synonymous, which is opposite of the administration's previous, separate definition between the people and leadership of Lebanon and the Hezbollah forces.

Israel is saying that they will back down from their original goal of pushing to the Litani river in Lebanon. Nobody likes a quitter. Israel has agreed to the U.N. ceasefire resolution if Hezbollah stops firing rockets and disarms. This means that Israel will back down from their previous goal of completely destroying Hezbollah and their ability to wage terror. The terrorist manpower and desire to destroy will therefore remain. Why not just finish it now?

I have had restless nights, an inability to get to sleep, and waking in the middle of the night for no apparent reason other than Israel is on my heart and I must ask God to send angelic help for their safety and success. If Israel quits early and lets Hezbollah remain alive, that gives Hezbollah their victory. If this in fact happens, the next time Israel gets attacked they should just stay home instead of waging a feminized, half fought war and wasting the world’s time. If there's one thing people universally hate is their time being wasted by a fool.

I don't have the time or the emotional strength to blog on the garbage that's going on any more. I have a personal life that requires my attention and I can't allow my time and energy to be consumed by things I can’t change. I may have to unplug my radio and delete some of my bookmarks.

The one thing that was so different about this situation was Hugh Hewitt’s attitude. Hugh has always been the calm, level headed voice of eternal optimism in every situation since I began listening to him on 9/11. His influence has brought a balance to my temperament and has guided my reaction to events over time. I use to react to situations harshly and would jump to an all out war conclusion. But I would always allow Hugh to calm me down, even if I didn’t fully understand. But his attitude was different at the beginning of this war; that Israel should not back down. This sounded new to me and I was surprised to realize that we were agreeing. He even agreed with James Lileks a couple of days after the fighting began who said that he didn’t want to see any de-escalation of violence either.

In the end, I realize that all this has happened before. And it will all happen again. So to bring an awkward end to this thread (please forgive me for waxing artistic), I have made the following link available.

The Senate Speech from Starlancer.

It’s a recording from the future, brought back to show us how history has, is, and will repeat itself all over again; and that it’s not necessary to allow oneself to become stirred up emotionally by current events.

Bush says what he has to say, makes "obvious" moves toward "ceasefire", meanwhile Israel beats the crap out of the terrorists.

Bush is doing EXACTLY what he should be doing, and it amuses me when Conservative armchair warriors get pissy because we aren't dropping nukes.

Yes, he is. He's doing just great.

I was very encouraged to hear him utter the word "Islamofacist" yesterday.

We're gettiing very close to formally naming the enemy...

I just hope that the terrorists refuse to ceasefire and force Israel to finish completely. I don't have a problem with you calling me an armchair warrior. But you're saying Bush should be making peace with terrorists? Or do you mean "should"? I'm sorry, but I just don't perceive nuances that deep.

Agreed, Bush, Condi, and John Bolton are all making noises designed to keep the Euroweenies on the defensive, and out of Israel's way. They're also trying to help Republicans win an election that is only a few months away.

Nobody with a fraction of a brain in his head believes that Hezballah will even read the words of a cease-fire resolution, and as long as that is the case, Israel will be able to keep pounding on it's sworn enemy.

I've heard him use the term, Islamofascist, several times.

Just watch Bush's face when he speaks of this matter..everything that is inside this man shows in
his face..he would make a terrible liar. Everyone could see
the truth just by glancing at him.

When he speaks of this he can barely keep from breaking into a wide grin...if this goes on much longer I swear the man will break into song and dance.

He has zero interest in stopping this at this time...when and if he does you will see something very different in his face.

Bush is the one pushing for fast cease fire resolution, while French and others stall over the wording at the UN. It's all PR. Bush has back-up this time, so he can say "we want a cease fire" all while knowing that others don't, or aren't willing to put up the necessary troops to make it happen.

Don't worry, Israel isn't going to quit anytime soon. I'll give you 50-50 chance they'll be up to 15,000 (from the 6,000-8,000 troops they have now) by the end of next weekend. In part its because they have to do this to sweep the area of terrorists and in part because they need to prove, so to speak, that 15,000 is the number that the French and other "peacekeepers" will need to hold the line.

Israel may be hesitating about a deeper push, but it could be for many reasons including confusing the enemy. It has also laid down specific demands such as whomever replaces them must be willing to fight like them. The Arab leaders just left Beirut and Beirut is saying Israel must leave before it will agree to any UN resolution. Neither one is budging.

I think this is going to go on for several more weeks at least, unless Hezbula throws in the towel.

No--just the opposite.

If Bush wanted to stop this, he could have. He didn't. As I said, he is playing it precisely as he should be.

Yep. I freely admit I was one of those "It's Al Qaeda, not Islam" folks once, as Bush was. It's no longer the case with me, and seeing how Bush knows a lot more intel than I do, I am betting he doesn't see it that way, either.

Excellent, excellent analysis, a great read.

What we don't know is what Israel feels comfortable with, and you can bet they want to be perceived as wanting to keep going. If they are perceived as only stopping because Bush has leashed them, it is so very much more to their advantage than if they're perceived as having WILLINGLY stopped.

If you're a Hezbo, which would frighten you more--an Israel that says "OK, we're gonna stop now" ("Ah ha! Israel is worn out! They've reached their limits!") or one that is snapping its jaws, WANTING to keep going, but can't because the US has forced it to stop ("Damn! We'd better not give them an excuse to restart their attacks!")?

My feelings exactly - this is not the war israel should fight.

The enemy is in Damaskus and in Teheran - Beirut is just the field of engagement - Hizbollah has an office in Damaskus - you can write them a letter if you wish.

I still feel compassion for not only the people of Israel but of Lebanon, too. They pay the price for the mullahs 'shit' as George Walker liked to adress it.

Right now the problem isn't Bush it is Olmert

Israel no longer has the stomach to do what is needed

They are done as a nation

No Oil and completely dependent on the USA for its existence

I guess it was doomed from the start in 46

I don't have a problem with you calling me an armchair warrior.

Stay clam and remember that those using the armchair insult to dismiss your opinion are also sitting in an armchair.
They are unable to address the issue directly with supportable evidence so must resort to a personal attack on your worthiness.

Some people just don't listen, but they get outraged, anyway. "President Bush has been working hard writing a peace and ceasefire agreement for Israel and Hezbollah." If this author were paying close attention, he would realize that the proposed agreements are not between Hezb. They deal with states and what they are going to do about Hezb. We don't negotiate with terrorists.
