Video Cameras on the Lookout for Terrorists(Deporting all the Muslims would be cheaper!)

NISKAYUNA, New York (AP) -- It sounds like something out of science fiction.

Researchers at General Electric Co.'s sprawling research center, are creating new "smart video surveillance" systems that can detect explosives by recognizing the electromagnetic waves given off by objects, even under clothing.

Scientist Peter Tu and his team are also developing programs that can recognize faces, pinpoint distress in a crowd by honing in on erratic body movements and synthesize the views of several cameras into one bird's eye view, as part of a growing effort to thwart terrorism.

"We're definitely on the cutting edge," said Tu, 39. "If you want to reduce risk, video is the way to do it. The threat is always evolving, so our video is always evolving."

Scientists at the GE complex, a landscaped, gated campus of laboratories and offices spread out over 525 acres and home to 1,900 scientists and staff, and others in the industry hope to use various technologies to reduce false alarms, cut manpower used on mundane tasks and give first-responders better tools to assess threats. The country's growing security needs also provide an opportunity to boost business.

The United States and its allies now face a new "Iraq generation" of terrorists who have learned how to make explosive devices, assassinate leaders and carry out other mayhem since the U.S. invasion of the country more than three years ago, said Roger Cressey, a former counterterrorism official in the Bush Administration who now runs his own consulting business in Arlington, Virginia.

"christ?"

First, Jesus would appreciate it if you wouldn't use His name in vain.(That's the 3rd Commandment if you don't already know it)
Second, Christ is spelled with a capital "C."

"Not all muslims are extremists just like not all christians are fundamental LDSers."

you obviously have not read the koran.
and how many Christians do you know that want anyone who isn't a Christian dead.

Seems you are the one who needs to "get a grip."

Do you worship on the seventh day? If not then I don't think that you really know much about the ten commandments.

From the time that I've spent on FR, it seems that there are a lot of christians that want non-christians dead.

yes I do...the question is do you...you definitely don't respect Christ and/or the Commandments.

"If not then I don't think that you really know much about the ten commandments"

I obviously know more about the Ten Commandments than you. LOL

well since you are a newbie and you obviously don't know what you're talking about, I'll excuse your ignorance of the subject at hand which is islam, terrorists, terrorism and the WOT. Stick to what you know which is posting cute little cartoon characters.

You got that right. IMO, next terrorist attack that we suffer on American soil, the detention camps erected to house these people will make the Japanese camps look like child's play.

How will these learned scientists train their software to recognize Sudden Jihad Syndrome, where the sufferer (always a follower of the Religion of Peace) starts to commit an act of violence without so much as any prior hint?

I can just see them spending years trying to get the software to not have false positives for handicapped people, especially people who have nervous tics, or who have artificial limbs or some dysplasia. The various activists for Disabled Rights will have a field day with it.

Further, not many chemicals "emit" "electromagnetic energy", that is unless they are illuminated by some source. There is a world of false positives to be found in construction workers on their lunch break, farmers or assembly line workers who come into public areas right after work.

Our local mall has maybe two or three security people on a given shift. Who is going to watch the monitors? Sounds to me like a megabuck attempt to facilitate denial of what would offend political correctness: that Islamists are time bombs who must be excluded from the West before they blow up themselves and maybe someone else too.

I'm not for "detention camps"; I'm for deportation.

These people are against anyone who is not muslim.
Well, guess what, we allow freedom of religion not "freedom to murder anyone who is not muslim."
So they need to go back to whatever hellhole they originated from. 'Cause we don't want folks living here who don't even like much less love us and our country, culture and/or customs.

Yes, until proven otherwise.

So do you worship on Saturday (The Sabbath) or on Sunday (The Pope's Holiday)?

You claim to know more about the 10 Commandments yet you flaunt your knowledge like the Pharisees of Jesus' time. You belittle others rather than bring them to Christ.

You could very well be mistaken in your beliefs yet you would never see it, due to your pride.

how, when & where I practice my religion is none of your business.

what you need to do is focus on is the subject at hand which is the WOT, homeland security, terrorism, terrorists and muslims in America.
and you obviously have your work cut out for you.

Better cost us our principles than our lives...

I'm sure glad the Founding Fathers didn't see it that way.

so by the same principle, wouldn't how, when, and where others practice religion be none of anybody elses business?

Hi Chickensoup-

"...I don't want to live like this..."

You are 100% precisely correct. It is because we as a society spend so much time walking around as if on eggshells because we don't want to "offend" anyone. This nifty new software doesn't address the true problem (violent Islamic jihadists) it is just one of many band-aid approaches to the issue. Islamic jihadists want us dead, they want our children dead, they want our homes burned to the ground, and they want Western culture crushed. The sooner people understand that, the better we'll be able to respond in a unified manner before it's too late.

Meanwhile, tiny penknives are yanked from fans entering football stadiums for "terrorism" reasons.

Yeah well, the Founding Fathers didn't have to deal with something called "Islam".

"freedom of religion" does not mean "freedom to blow up buildings and murder" and that is not only "our business" but against our laws!

now quit bothering me with your inane posts
