It's good to have friends in high places. Just ask Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The California governor, a Republican, has been endorsed in his re-election bid by three of Hollywood's biggest political forces -- all of whom are noted for their big-wallet donations to the Democratic Party.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Schwarzeneger has received the backing of Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and media mogul Haim Saban. Such party defections will hurt Schwarzenegger's opponent, state Treasurer Phil Angelides.
"It starts with a personal relationship. They are friends," Andy Spahn, a spokesman for both Spielberg and Katzenberg, told the Times.
According to the Times, the two men also like Schwarzenegger's plans to tackle global warming and fund schools. But further, Spahn said, "they are receptive to the governor's taking a less partisan approach to the job and a more inclusive approach to government."
Perhaps the deepest pockets among those embracing Schwarzenegger belong to the Egyptian-born Saban, who produced the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" and eventually created a media empire.
Saban, who is trying to acquire the Spanish-language network Univision with other investors, is a former trustee of the Democratic National Committee and one of its biggest donors. He spent $200,000 fighting the 2003 recall election that brought Schwarzenegger to power.
Other Hollywood Democrats on the list of Schwarzenegger supporters include Jerry Zucker of "Airplane!" fame, movie producer Jonathan Sheinberg and Bud Yorkin, a longtime TV director and producer.
"I can't run away from the fact that I am a friend of Arnold. But if I disagreed with him, I wouldn't have voted for him," Yorkin said Friday. "People think Hollywood is one giant liberal. That's not the truth."
Common sense indicates that such backers means the leadership of the California GOP is going leftward, not that some of the big players in Hollywood are getting any more conservative.
So much for the people who say that Republicans need to be a "big tent" and tend more towards "Mainstreet." Such an approach does not take into consideration that our adversaries on the other side will take the opportunity to get their claws in both major political parties.

Hollywood Trio Endorses Governor
The move by Spielberg, Katzenberg and Saban could encourage other Democrats to follow.

Spielberg wants to go with Cindy Sheehan and talk to the Arabs on Arab Street which is near where Jack Nicholson bought Marlon Brando's house on Mullholland Drive. Cindy bought a house in Crawford but she is thinking that she needs more space to be away from Bush and the wild parties he and his friends are throwing every night now that they rule the world. Mullholland Dr. is probably where she will settle down to do a couple of films with the guy from Eraser Head and Spielberg. Spielberg wouldn't comment because he might offend the Arabs on Arab Street and there wouldn't be any extras in the new movie with Cindy playing the transsexual Z man -- the movie rights are owned by Marlon Brando and will be bequeath to Jack Nicholson in a year or two. Cindy says that life is really weird now that she has moved to Hollywood but it beats listening to those crazy parties in Crawford (apparently Rummy hangs from the chandeliers up side down, and he is screaming out for her to come join him). Cindy said Clooney is nice too, but that he bites his finger nails because the mob is after him for Good Night. Cindy also likes the medication she is on... she feels like a real Hollywood star.
I know he is Jewish. But if I remember correctly, he does not support the state of Israel. Do you remember?
Bud Yorkin (born in Washington, Pennsylvania on February 22, 1926) is an American producer/director/writer/actor. He directed and produced the innovative 1958 TV special An Evening With Fred Astaire, which won nine Emmy Awards.
In the 1970s, Yorkin teamed up with Norman Lear to form Tandem Productions, which produced many of the decade's hit sitcoms, such as All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, and Diff'rent Strokes (which was done after Yorkin left Tandem).
I just remember all the crap from freepers who said he was this and that based upon his movie, Munich. And that was coming from freepers who hadn't even seen it.
Steven Spielberg supports Israel and I'm sure he makes some donations.
His sin is making stupid movies about the Mossad tracking and killing Arab terrorists. Stupid movie with the screenplay written by gay Tony Kushner who is a genuine self hating leftist Jew and severe critic of Israel

I just looked it up. Speilberg does support Israel ... but, as Dennis said, he makes movies that appear to be apologetic to the Arab position.
