Close aide Ricardo AlarconI heard this guy yesterday. He was talking to NPR about how alert and involved Fidel was. The interviewer then asked him where Raul was since he apparently has not been seen and Alarcon responded by asking where VP Cheney was, a complete non-sequiter, as if to say it's not the least unusual for the guy to go completely missing. He is the Cuban Baghdad Bob.

The longer Raul is silent the better. Perhaps when he does appear we will learn that he has leased the island to Bill Gates for the next 20 years and as his first act since becoming the new leader, he is going to Disneywold.

That tells it all--he's dead. If he were alive he'd have at least released a video of himself sitting up in bed talking with his accomplices. Ike and Reagan both released videos or films (Ike) after they were hospitalized with life threatening medical crises.

There was an internet rumor last week that Fidel was dead. Given the history of the old Soviet Union and how they managed changes at the top, this seems to be following that old format.
In short, Fidel has been dead for about 10 days and this is all stagecraft for the power transition.
