Kidnapped soldiers may have received treatment in Baalbek
Jerusalem Post ^ | 2006-08-02 | Anshel Pfeffer and Yaakov Katz

Posted on 08/02/2006 11:42:24 AM PDT by Clive

The IDF commando raid in Baalbek was carried out based upon the assessment that the two kidnapped soldiers, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, were treated at the Hizbullah-controled hospital shortly after their capture.

The hospital in Baalbek, as other Hizbullah medical facilities around Lebanon, serves the local Shi'ite community and in addition has underground bunkers for the movement's purposes. It is believed that the two soldiers were held in these bunkers before being moved along.

Referring to the late Tuesday commando operation, Halutz said that a special elite military force had operated near the Baalbek neighborhood, killing at least 10 Hizbullah guerrillas and taking another five captive.

Halutz said that Baalbek was where most of the Hizbullah leaders lived and where the terror organization had a remote logistics base.

Some of the abducted terrorists, he said, were nabbed from a hospital in the area which, he said, was funded and managed by the Iranians.

"The objective of the covert operation was to demonstrate that we can operate deep inside Lebanon and wherever we want," Halutz said.

Halutz added that during the late night operation, IDF commandos had captured "loads of intelligence information" on Hizbullah.

The operation, he said, was part of the IDF general plan of action against Hizbullah, which included not only ground operations in southern Lebanon, where thousands of troops and reservists were currently taking up positions in villages, but also deep incursions into Lebanon like the one Tuesday night at Baalbek, 200 kilometers from the northern Israeli border.

Halutz said that Hizbullah still retained the ability to launch attacks against Israel, as could be seen by Wednesday morning's bombardment of northern Israel with over 50 rockets - although, he said, "Hizbullah operated like a guerrilla group, while we operate like a military, utilizing our advantages, such as air superiority."

The Chief of General Staff reported that more than 300 Hizbullah gunmen had been killed since Operation Change of Direction was launched on July 12, following the abduction of two soldiers in a cross-border attack. He said that the group's array of medium-range and long-range rockets had been severely damaged, though not completely destroyed.

Halutz said that the current IDF operation was meant to provide the Israeli government "with flexibility to either stay [in southern Lebanon], withdraw, or advance."

He concluded by saying that the IDF was prepared to remain inside Lebanon "for as long as needed," including until a multinational force was deployed inside southern Lebanon.

Haluz also rejected the possibility that Israel would agree to a unilateral cease-fire.

"A unilateral cease-fire is out of the question," he said.

THIS IS INTERESTING....

"Some of the abducted terrorists, he said, were nabbed from a hospital in the area which, he said, was funded and managed by the Iranians."

Makes me wonder if they nabbed some iranians in the process.... Now that would be a great bargaining chip.

I think there might be more than a few Hezbullah yahoos running around Southern Lebanon getting a little worried that the IDF might now have their contact information, thanks to the jokers back in the rear who thought they were too far in the rear to worry about securing stuff like that. Good for the IDF!

I'd love to know what they found.

FNC reported this morning that the Israelis grabbed a guy named Nasrallah (sp?), but he ended up not being the Hezbollah head coward. But the reporter made it sound as if that was also a prime motivation for the raid.

He's just making that crap up. Here's a quote from a ynet story:

"The officer was asked whether the operation at the hospital was aimed at locating intelligence information on the kidnapped soldiers, who may have been treated there before being moved elsewhere, but he refused to answer the question."

One thing is for sure. The IDF are beating the bastards brains in. Hopefully the IDF is so well established at this point that they will be rounding up a lot more goons, and perhaps dropping a lot of acurate placed ordnance on their frigen heads.

They keep saying the Israel troops were once at the site. If Israel knew enough to get in and get out with out losing anyone they knew those troops were not there.

Ask your self what would Israel want to know?

The answer is how man long range missiles does Hezbollah have and how successful has Syria been at resupply.

The place to get the answers to that would be Hezbollah who have been injured. That hospital would include a collection of people who have that information from all over Lebanon. Thus Israel goes in and takes quite a number of prisoners. Earlier stories said Israeli troops examined the Ids of every one in the hospital. The reason they did that should be obvious .

The bull sh*t the media puts out is just that. Israel wants to know how many munitions are left and how well is Syria doing resupplying Hezbollah. They went to Hospital to get that information.
