This morning President Bush traveled to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for his annual physical. He was declared in good health, but has gained a bit of weight (four pounds) which he attributed to 'too many birthday cakes.' Doctors put him in the superior category of fitness for men his age.
Some of the fun details.........(excerpted from Reuters......)
The nearly 6-foot Bush weighed in at 196 pounds, up from around 191.6 pounds last year.
A fitness enthusiast, Bush rides his mountain bike several times a week and also does elliptical training, free-weights, stretching and low-impact workouts on a treadmill.
Mountain biking became his favorite sport after he had to give up running three years ago because of knee problems.
Bush's body mass index is 26.6 under a formula used by the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 25 or above is considered to be overweight though the index does not account for extra muscle mass.
"The president remains in excellent health and fit for duty. All data suggest that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency," a summary of the medical report said.
The president's resting heart rate was 46 beats per minute, well below the average of range of 60 to 85 and consistent with someone in very good physical shape.
His blood pressure was 108/68 and his cholesterol was 174, both normal levels. His cholesterol level was down from 178 last year.
Bush, who celebrated his birthday at a Fourth of July dinner at the White House, was given a total of seven cakes during the week he turned 60, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.
Asked about Bush's weight gain, Snow said, "My guess is he's determined to lose it."
Last year's physical exam found that Bush had lost eight pounds (3.5 kg) after his weight had crept up to 199.6 pounds (90.5 kg) in December 2004, an increase he blamed on the presidential campaign that year. (end excerpt)
First Lady Laura and daughters Barbara and Jenna were spotted in Alaska at the Denali National Park and Preserve on vacation, and it was confirmed by the National Park Service there. (It's hard to hide when you're the wife of the President!)
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!
It really is...llamas are such wonderful creatures, too. Kind of goofy, funny, cute and occasionally can be mean. :)
I think that climbing the ladder to your roof 20x/day would be great for your leg muscles! I have managed (with God's help, I believe) to establish more discipline in my life over the last year regarding exercise. I do get at least 45 minutes 5-6x/week. I have finally gotten to the point that I miss it when I miss a day or two. That is good motivation for me.
LOL! Yeah. I'll privately send you his screen name. Didn't want to mention it here because then I'd have to ping him.
Congratulations. You make the time for exercise. That's what I must do too.
Yeah, those dang cakes will do it to you every time!
Thank you so much for your sweet words my friend.
Regards, Cyber {{{{hugs back to you}}}}

And .. a special thanks for that reminder.
Cyber
Thank you! Your prayers will help a lot.
Cyber
Wow! How did you know she was a sweetie ..?? Everybody who took care of her at the nursing home just loved her.
Thanks for that sweet sentiment.
Cyber
'Cause she was YOUR Mom!
You're welcome....hope you will be doing all right! (((hugs)))
Actually he's closer to 6 feet than 5'11. He is barely off 6 feet.
Thank you .. you are too kind!
Cyber
(((hugs)))...I still remember when I lost my mom. Many years ago when I was quite young. It always leaves an empty spot.
A man that is a fraction under 6 feet tall is hardly a little man.
My spot has been empty for awhile because of my mom's dementias, she didn't know us anymore. But .. NOW SHE DOES! Knowing that helps a lot.
For her to go on she was only was only going to deteriorate more mentally and physically. She is in a much better place now.
I agree maybe not nowadays but certainly when he was younger that was tall.
My dad who is in his late 70s is 5:10 and when he was a youngster that was considered above average. Now of course many women are that height.
Thank you very much snugs!
Last check up, I shared the same resting heart rate with the President (and my Dr gave me an EKG! LOL!)
I had been on a rigorous walking program and it had dropped...........HOWEVER, I am also on BP meds which give me a little assistance.
And I don't even share the same blood pressure as the President WITH the meds.
His physical condition is amazing!
