An Open Letter to Pat Buchanan
Chronwatch ^ | July 31, 2006 | Burt Prelutsky

Pat Buchanan, not satisfied merely looking like a Herblock depiction of a bigot, a man who never allows an opportunity to slam Israel slip through his fingers, has been on a rampage because Israel has finally gone after the murderous thugs and sadists of Hezbollah.

The fact that the terrorists don’t wear uniforms means that every time the Israelis kill one of them, Buchanan and his ilk get to insist that Israel is targeting civilians. Buchanan’s concern for civilians isn’t nearly so evident when it’s Jews who are targeted by Hamas, Hezbollah, and the PLO’s suicide bombers.

One of the sillier things Israel has done in recent years was to fall for the land for peace con game. They surrendered territory and any number of settlements as a gesture of good will. Good will gestures made to terrorists and tyrants are the height of folly and cowardice, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s the Arabs or Adolf Hitler. Offer your hand to the tiger and don’t expect him to stop nibbling when he gets to your wrist.

Because Israel plays such a prominent role in the news, and because it’s managed, against all odds, to survive for 58 years, one can easily over-estimate its actual place in the world. The fact of the matter is that unless you were at the top of your geography class, you’d be hard-pressed to find it on your globe. To give you a clear idea of what Israel is up against, keep in mind that there are 22 countries in the Arab League. The League encompasses 5,200,000 square miles; Israel was 8,000 square miles before giving up the aforementioned turf. What’s more, there are 312 million people living in those 22 countries. Israel’s population is six million, more than a million of whom are Arabs.

So far as Buchanan and his friends are concerned, it would seem that the only thing that’s required to make Israel the jewel of the Middle East is for those five million Jews to disappear.

You have to wonder what it is about those 8,000 square miles that the Arabs covet. It’s not as if Israel sits on huge oil deposits. Why aren’t five million square miles enough? I mean, if you had five million dollars, would you cry yourself to sleep every night because you didn’t have $5,008,000?

Let’s face it -- before the Jews built universities, hospitals and concert halls, and planted trees and crops, the place was nothing but a desert.

So many people are happy to trumpet “No blood for oil.” How is it that we never hear them, or Mr. Buchanan, telling the Arabs, “No blood for sand”?

Please direct me to where I said Catholics are not Christian?

OK, I direct you to the following post by you, in which you refer to Patrick Buchanan:

To: The_Republican
Cites Free Speech for one. The other? He's a useful tool for the Left.

They paint him as a conservative Christian Republican.

He's not the first two, and I don't know if he's currently registered as a Republican but he's hardly a spokesman for them.

The more they parade him about, though, the less useful he becomes. More and more people are denouncing him as the anti-semite he is..in public. they used to whisper it in the shadows and simply ignore that "unpleasantness" about him.

You said he "was not the first two," meaning not conservative or Christian. I then responded by saying Buchanan is a Roman Catholic and asking since when were Catholics not Christian.

I don't generally go about saying that person is a Christian, and that person is not. But in the case of the Clinton's, Kerry, Teddy and yes, Pat Buchanon, I've made an exception. I don't believe any of them are Christians..no matter what church they claim affiliation with. If I'm wrong, I'm sure God will take it up with me.

Your arrogance is breathtaking. In the United States, we are free to adhere to any religion we so choose. How well we practice our religion is between us, our clergy and our God. Nowhere is it written that Soul Seeker is the authority and arbiter of who is and is not a Christian (or any other religious denomination, for that matter).

Reading this thread, one would think that there are no Jews who despise the Neo-Con artists; as if the many libertarin Jews don't exist.

he only laughs out louder in response,

I have never seen Pat look anything but sour for the past twenty years.

The interesting thing is I think that Jews and "Neo-Cons" are just a scapegoats for the people Pat really hates, American Voters.

When Buchannan mentions the existence of "powerful Jewish organizations", he's smeared as an anti-semite.

No, he is correctly labeled an anti-semite. And a kook.

You might have noticed that Pat's little rants continuing are the strongest evidence for him being wrong.

Pat has been shouting his message about these "oh so powerful groups" for decades and yet he has is everywhere. You would think that such a powerful lobby would have shut him up years ago. Yet Pat continues unhindered. Why do you think that is?

Could it be because they are only a bogeyman to poor delusional souls like Pat?

It is sort of like the DUmmies foaming at the mouth about how they are protesting a "Fascist State". Honey babe, in a fascist state you would be in jail.

In a world controlled by "powerful Jewish organizations" Pat's only platform would be the soapbox on the corner rather then his bitter mug being on national TV weekly.

Very funny letter and up to the point -:))) For Buchannan and folks like him, it's always Israel's fault that Israel's enemies seek to wipe her off the map. One more garbage pseudo-intellectual. I liked his book "The Death of The West" where he wrote thoughtful passages about Israel and Arab Muslims. However, lately he simply slipped into a moral grey zone. He simply discredited himself.

And Buchanan goes on to criticize all the gentiles I mention, plus writes that America has a moral obligation to Israel.

Yes. I notice the one sentence that states our "obligation" to Israel, amidst the complaints about all the money that the United States has given our democratic ally.

I'm not going to convince you, but I've remained in this dialogue for the benefit of lurkers.

re: Yet Pat continues unhindered.)))

Judging by the perennial theads unhappy over Pat, I'd say he does his job of stirring up the "Ooo! What he said, Maisie!" crowd. So much ink here is "ooo! what he said!" like some blue-nosed PC Carrie Nation. Like any pundit, Pat's only as valuable as the audience he draws. He can only be a lightning rod if there's electricity in the air.

I've wondered what might happen if the energy expended snarling over Pat's latest statement was channelled into converting most (like the 76% who voted against the pro-Israel Bush) American Jews into actually supporting the candidates who will actually support Israel. IOW, with friends like Stephen Spielberg and Alan Dershowitz, who needs Pat Buchanan?

It's my belief, having progressed beyond opinion--we have seen our last pro-Israel presidient. I'm amazed at what is going on in Connecticut with Lieberman. Why worry about Pat, neos--find a way to save Lieberman!

Aren't Clowns supposed to make you laugh?

He makes me laugh. Every single time I see an article I end up laughing at it, because he is SO out of it on almost any front these days.

Every time Pat says anything, I see people bending out of shape, turning purple with anger. Isreali Press dubbed him American Hitler when he ran for Presidency and they were not smiling at all.

Israel likes having the US as an ally. Pat would have changed all of that through his extreme isolationism.

Funny thing is that Pat is usually viciously attacked and he only laughs out louder in response, while mocking his attackers.

No he goes on and rants about the same subject again and again and again, while the laughter coming from anyone who ISN'T a supporter of his grows....

How does he manage this inner peace?

Inner peace hell. He's so full of bitterness and anger that he has completely flipped his toupee. He responds by lashing out. There is no inner peace for Pat Buchanan, only anger at the JOOOOOOOSssss....

Why worry about Pat, neos--find a way to save Lieberman!

Why should anyone want to save Lieberman?

Lieberman is a liberal through and through. On ONE issue he is better then some democrats but there are several other democrats that are good on ONE issue as well. I am not inclined to save them either.

When your enemy is busy making a noose you offer him a chair.

How do you attempt to convert people when you have someone who in your name is slandering them? Do you really think that Pat's little delusional rants are helping convince young Jewish voters (over 50% voted for Bush) to stay in the party?

It's my belief, having progressed beyond opinion--we have seen our last pro-Israel presidient.

Malarkey.

While the "Palos" are fading into the sunset with their base old, worn out and bitter over their defeat, a new generation of young people are taking up the conservative banner.

We will clean up the utter mess the gang that couldn't win elections have left for us.

I dunno about the "young" but Reagan got a lot more Jewish votes than Bush. 76% voted for Kerry. Dershowitz works hard to get Hillary more power. Spielberg rhapsodizes over Fidel. I guess it'd be easy to blame it on Pat...? I think they ought to be more concerned with the fate of Israel than their spite-match with the likes of Pat and Mel and...whoever gets their spite tomorrow.

I'm not really that attached to Lieberman, but when he's gone, Israel is going to be considerably worse off. I guess this thead isn't really about the fate of Israel?

That's the sort of thing I'm learning these days. Nothing seems to be about Israel. It's about Pat. It's about Mel. Whateveh.

I'm old enough to remember when the Democrats were on the side of Israel. Now almost all Jews seem to be embarrassed by Jerusalem, and scared of the "zionist" appelation. I can remember when "antisemite" carried a real sting. Now it's fashionable, because it proves one is not a zionist.

Pat's nobody. That's why he's so important here.

You ignored the fact that it went from 11%-16%-19%-24% in the last four elections right?

In other words gains. Despite the best efforts of some to drive them out.

I guess this thead isn't really about the fate of Israel?

An Open Letter to Pat Buchanan

There are other threads about that. This one is about your hero Pat.

I'm not really that attached to Lieberman, but when he's gone, Israel is going to be considerably worse off.

Really? Actually if he is replaced by a Republican they might be far better off. And isn't that what the "palos" are always whining about? Put America first as if it were impossible to be pro-Israel and an American at the same time.

I can remember when "antisemite" carried a real sting. Now it's fashionable,

It always was fashionable in a certain set. It is still fashionable in that set.

I haven't seen those figures before. They quite dazzle--I'd love to know where they come from. According to your confidence, we should be getting to 30% just any minute now.

As for Pat being my hero, he's way more your hero than mine, becaue you need him and I don't. I don't give a shine about him, whereas he stirs you up.

Pat's a strawman. He's something to get worked up about, allows the superhero wannabes to play Atticus Finch for the thin crowd (and no liberal can go for a whole day without playing Atticus Finch at least once)--I wish you'd let him head to oblivion by resisting the need to feed the attention monster.

But then, in the vacuum, the real problem would still be there.

Poor dear, does your hero that you have so ardently defended embarrass you?

Yes, we are quite please with the numbers after Pat and friends did their best to drive Jewish voters out of the GOP.

The best part like I said is the fact that we are making strong inroads among young voters.

You keep ranting about the "real problem" in an attempt to divert attention from your hero having wet himself in public by proclaiming his support of anti-American terror groups.

So tell me, what is the "Real problem"?

re: Poor dear, does your hero that you have so ardently defended embarrass you?)))

Now you'd like to try to push my buttons in claiming that I've defended him, when I have chiefly expressed disgust over time wasted nattering over a nabob who just plain would not matter if he did not matter so much to you.

I guess your evidence for my defense is somewhere in that pile of paperwork that shows such a dazzling increase in Jewish votership.

The real probelm is hiding behind little children and lobbing rockets into Haifa. When Lieberman loses, there'll be more and bolder rockets because one more ally in the US for Israel will be gone.

But, oooo....what he said! I'm sure you have to find your linen suit and give Scout a reassuring hug, so carry on.
