a little history for everyone:
Decker acknowledged accepting $50,000, including $12,000 in cash, from Democrats in exchange for switching to the Democratic party and supporting Rep. Jim Black, D-Mecklenburg, for speaker.
He also said he got a legislative job for his son.
The plea agreement read in court today said that Decker met with a Democratic House member to discuss the political deal, but the papers did not name that person. Later, Decker received an envelope containing $38,000 in checks and $12,000 in cash, court documents said. An unnamed Democratic House member delivered the money, whose source was unclear. A prosecutor said that much of the money went into Decker's campaign account.
Although Black was not named, he has testified in a Board of Elections hearing that he raised campaign money for Decker after Decker agreed to support him.
Decker, a former Republican, faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced in November.
Decker had not been charged until Tuesday. He waived indictment and pleaded guilty as part of a pre-arranged deal.
The case is part of a continuing investigation into improper campaign fundraising and other allegations surrounding Black.
This kind of public corruption undermines our democracy and the legitimacy of legislative bodies, Acting U.S. Attorney George Holding said in a statement. ... Public officials must be held accountable when they take official actions for private financial gains.
Decker has said he used the money for a trip to Florida, where he bought a used car.
One down, a few hundred to go...
bump
Seems there is a co-conspirator that needs to be prosecuted.
NC Bump
Democrats - bribing the best legislators money can buy...
thought you would want to see this
I think I'm going to open a campaign account.
Ok, now everyone send me your money!

So a trip to Florida and a used car will get ya 5 yrs and a $250k fine.....doesn't sound like a good tradeoff.
Black & Decker.
A couple of tools.
Ah! You are from NJ.
I now have a campaign account and am running for dog catcher.
Send me all your money!
Well are we gonna fry this rhino (figuratively)?????
Just think, if he was just relatively honest he coulda stayed in office and made millions instead, like the rest of them do.
Very clever....lol.
When this happens in Illinois it is praised as bi-partisan cooperation .... by the members of the bi-partisan combine.
When Westside Bloc Republicans voted with the Dems the MSM praised them for a year before Ogilvie mounted a successful PR cmapaign against it. Then when Ogilvie became governor he did the same thing by convincing Black Democrats to allign with the Republicans.
More recently the current IL GOP National Committeeman is paid a couple million of taxpayer money by the Democrats and in turn performs assisted suicide on the IL GOP.... and anyone who doesn't like the bi-partisanship is divisive.
Black should be next, for taking campaign contributions in the form of blank signed checks from optometrists, in exhange for ramming through the legislation requiring all 5 year olds to have optometry exams before being allowed to enter school. It was overturned, but only after the public became outraged and someone filed a lawsuit.
Last year, the state's Aguriculture Secretary was sentenced to prison for skimming and rigging bids for the State Fair. All you need to do is look under any rock in North Carolina and you will find a dirty politician.
"Decker, a former Republican, faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced in November."
Couldn't the author have reported that Decker was a Republican in the previous paragraph? Instead, the writer points out Decker was a Republican and faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine in the same sentence.
Or am I just being paranoid again?
