I think this is a wonderful way for Canadians and muslims to foster better cross-cultural understanding. Muslims are always complaining that we don't really understand Islam, and watching the way they practice in their Canadian (and US) mosques is a wonderful way to learn about it.
There's nothing more revealing about a group as listening how they talk among themselves when they think no outsiders can hear them.
