When I look at these maps, my mind thinks that the Israeli's have so much to cover, but then I look at the mile/km reference - the width of the country through most of the area under conflic is roughly my daily one-way commute...It is microscopic in terms of what the US had to go through when invading Iraq...

Why not? Bekka is Hezb Allah's training and equiping center. IMHO, if Israel wants to neutralize Hezb Allah they need take Bekka.

Southern Lebanon is now cut off, and Israel is attacking thier client's home base area...
EVERYTHING Assad's father, and numerous Syraian Generals/Baathists have tried to accomplish in Lebanon is now at risk.
Thier BEST HOPE is that by attacking, they can regain some lost Golan ground, and inflict Israeli casualties, before an outraged world puts an end to the fighting....
Thus they come out looking like Heros defending the Arab Manhood...
