Lebanon's PM thanks Hezbollah
Herald Sun ^ | 31 July 2006

LEBANESE Prime Minister Fouad Siniora thanked Hezbollah for its "sacrifices" in its war against Israel.

"We are in a strong position and I thank the Sayyed for his efforts," Mr Siniora said when asked about a statement by Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah calling on the Government to take advantage of Hezbollah's steadfastness against Israeli military might.

"I also thank all those who sacrifice their lives for the independence and sovereignty of Lebanon," he said.

Mr Siniora, a member of Lebanon's anti-Syrian coalition, has often been at odds with the Syrian-backed Hezbollah, but the 19-day-old conflict appears to have brought the two sides closer together.

"I also thank Hisb'allah for starting the war so I could thank them for helping out in the war they started."

Oh my God! The Lebanese must be kin to the Palestinians. Never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

For the sake of expediency and short term security, the Lebanese are sacrificing a window of opportunity for their own independence and freedom. It's my guess that if they don't change course, and it appears that the won't, that this window of freedom will not reappear for them for a long, long time, if ever. Too bad. It seems that this is a common trait with the middle east community, and europeans as well.

The only "sacrifice" that Hezbollah has made is of innocent Lebanese civilians. If the Lebanese government is serious about these statements, then Israel was mistaken about just going after Hezbollah. They've been attacked by the country of Lebanon, and need to declare war on the entire country.

Siniora is certainly showing his colors, and Israel should stop pussyfooting with Lebanon.

Israel is held to a different standard then Islamic terrorists are. While scumbags like Hamas and Hezbollah can do anything they want,Israel like the USA have to constantly be looking over their shoulder when engaged in any type of military action !!!

I would not be suprised if Syrian special forces are allowed into Lebanon by Siniora.

Ummm, isn't this guy supposed to be the pro-Western leader Bush and Condi keep telling us we should be supporting? We're supposed to be oh so worried about Siniora's government falling right? Funny that I've seen this guy going on anti-Israeli rants on CNN and FOX, and quite frankly, he doesn't seem so moderate to me - his thanking Hizbullah seems to be further proof of this.

Eventually, we are going to have to face the fact that virtually all of these people are our enemies. It doesn't matter what form of government they have, majority Islamic populations will never be tolerant or truly friendly with anything or anyone unIslamic. If at times they ally themselves with us, it is only temporary and only because it is useful or convenient at that moment in time.

Target the Lebanese PM building and ignore the rest of the world. Period.

US will keep trading with Israel.

Since Siniora has not issued one statement critical of Hezbollah since day one of this conflict, I don't see how they could be any closer.

Where is the Lebanese army that is supposed to keep Hezbollah out of Southern Lebanon, by the way?

Yes they have, but not to worry, I think they've pretty clearly gone to war over it.

That's what this is and what this always has been.

In the Arab world, a "moderate" is someone who wants to exterminate all the Jews, but only wants the Yankees to Go Home. The radicals want to exterminate all Americans. That constitutes their political spectrum.

That's good.

I've always thought of moderate Muslims as people who are sympathetic to the idea that Jews and Americans should be killed, but are just too lazy, preoccupied or otherwise busy to actually work on it themselves.
