MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Memphis judge said the ex-wife of former state senator John Ford has an "attitude problem" and ordered her to spend the weekend in jail for violating her probation.
Tamara Mitchell-Ford, 42, has a year left on a three-year probation she was sentenced to after a 2001 incident in which she rammed her Jaguar into the home of Connie Mathews, who has two children by John Ford.
"She has an attitude problem and an anger problem," said Criminal Court Judge Arthur Bennett at a hearing Friday to determine whether Mitchell-Ford failed to report to her probation officer as required.
Bennett ordered Mitchell-Ford _ who has taken anger management training as part of her probation _ to report to jail Friday afternoon and remain there until Monday.
Ford, who is under indictment in the FBI's Tennessee Waltz bribery sting, accompanied her to the hearing. He is awaiting trial on public corruption charges stemming from the investigation, in which five current or former state lawmakers were charged with crimes.
Mitchell-Ford asked the court in May to transfer her probation to her hometown of Greenville, S.C., where she plans to live with her father beginning in August.
She was charged with probation violation June 8 for missing an appointment with her probation officer, who testified she could not reach Mitchell-Ford for a couple of days because her home phone was disconnected.
The officer said Mitchell-Ford came in June 8 to complete some paperwork but "stormed out" after being asked to submit to alcohol and drug testing.
Mitchell-Ford said her phone was disconnected because her ex-husband, who was supporting her, had not paid the bill.
She also told the judge she was confused about the probation and believed her case had been automatically transferred to Greenville.
"All you had to do is sign the paper and take the tests. But you refused by leaving. It looks like that attitude has come back," said Bennett, adding that he would have given her 60 days in jail if not for her four children.
The Ford family could be an episode of Jerry Springer show. And yet, they hold public office, scary, very scary.
Nice folks these people are electing.
For heavens' sake, what happened to the poor Jaguar?
Massachusetts has the Kennedys, we have the Fords.

You still got the better of the deal !!!
Was she driving one... OR RIDING ONE?
That's what I want to know.
(I'll ping our resident Jaguar expert. Gracey)
No, she was put in jail because she violated the terms of her probation.
Let's just hope this woman doesn't suffer a sudden fatal annuerism or something, this week, in jail...
LOL! I've always wanted one of those, but I hear they spend alot of time (and money)in the repair shop.
This woman would be Rep.Harold Ford's step-mother?I am disgusted by the way the I-Man sucks up to this Lib A**H*LE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry,I didn't read it properly!
Jail, anger, attitude, corruption, alcohol and drug testing. No doubt these winning qualifications make Rep. Harold Ford Jr. a shoo-in for the open Senate seat in Tennesse. Furthermore please take note that Rep. Ford Jr.'s name doesn't appear anywhere on this article. If it was about a Pub's family. They would'a been named and linked to Jack Abramoff, the culture of corruption and the failure to capture Osama. Like Ann Coulter sez the press will never dis a certified victim by their definition.
Hmmm...
Can the same law be applied to CURRENT wives?
I never heard of an English car that didn't.
OK being a law and order guy I simply have to say that this headline is a load of bovine excrement. No matter how the MSM wishes to play it, this women is NOT the victim of some baised judge who decided to lock her up because she got all "uppity".
She was locked up for failing to abide by the conditions of her probation, plain and simple. End of Sentence. End of Story.
