Slimes finds one to reinforce it's inbred views. Not to see here, really.

and thinks homosexuality is not God’s ideal.

Just your typical Laodicean tap dancing his way to eternal disfavor. When will they ever learn, you cannot hedge God's word.

I read the article - but not on the Slimes (I'm not paying them to read their garbage online.)

Interesting that we're supposed to vote our conscience (as long as it goes along with a PC approved line of thinking.)

I don't like politics in the pulpit either. I never want to see my faith subordinated to any political party or candidate. Frankly, I think God is disgusted with the morals of both poltiical parties and wants them both to draw unto Him.

---Before the last presidential election, he preached six sermons called “The Cross and the Sword” in which he said the church should steer clear of politics, give up moralizing on sexual issues, stop claiming the United States as a “Christian nation” and stop glorifying American military campaigns.---

Give up moralizing on sexual issues? Is this coming out party? I don't see where moralizing about sexual issues (sexual conduct before marriage, homosexuality and abortion) becomes purely political and none of the churchs' business.

Greg Boyd had bigger problems than politics. He got caught in the whole "open knowledge" theological debate. He argued that God cannot foreknow the future free acts of men - a position which many (including myself) believe denies the omniscience of God.

Mr. Boyd says he is no liberal.
.
.
He has degrees from Yale Divinity School and Princeton Theological Seminary, ...

I think he is not telling the truth.

there was an unintended but funny part of the article. at the end google reviewed the content and concluded it was gay friendly and so put up homosexual ads.

NY Times senior editors are mostly sodomites and the problem with conseratives views on everything from abortion to war in the middle east is that these interfere with the doings of sodom.

I figured there was a lot more to the story than "Brave Pastor Doesn't Preach Politics." I don't know many evangelical pastors that spend a lot of time on politics other than asking us to pray for our leaders, etc.

I'm with the guy on not identifying Christianity with a country or a
political party.

But...the guy pulled a "bait and switch" with his flock.
Talked conservative enough to get their contributions...then unveiled himself
once the enterprise hit a critical mass.
That's evident in his "no regrets" about his swith-er-roo and lose of 1 in 5 members.

Well, I'd have to agree with some of what this guy holds. Christ wasn't a Republican and he wouldn't endorse the Republican agenda. That said, the Bible has an awful lot to say about the explicit evil embedded in the RAT party. Ann Coulter is right - they are godless.

On the other hand, this guy is a product of two of the most apostate seminaries in the nation: Yale and Princeton. The BGC tried to kick him out and he, apparently, holds to no form of church authority. I wouldn't trust his version of things for all the tea in China.

BTW, Christ did say we ought to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God. following the letter and spirit, I think that directs believers to use their influence to uphold truth and righteousness in civic life as well as in church.

Oh, how cute! Sounds more like a nice little every-Sunday Country Club meeting of the Liberal "Christians" who don't understand that MORALITY and CONSCIENCE and speaking up for such, even when it's not popular with the heathens down on Main Street, is a central tenet of Christianity!

I wonder how many years it's taken the Slimes to find a darling little Church somewhere in the Red States that agreed with its warped, Liberal views? I would have suggested they could have entered almost any Episcopalian congregation, with its gay and lesbian Priests and all, and it would have been a much quicker search (I know there ARE a handful of Episcopalians who actually disagree with the extreme Liberal bent of their Church)!

And now we cue Steve Taylor's "This Disco Used to be a Cute Cathedral!"

Don't get me wrong - there is an entire group in Evangelical Christianity, with whom I somewhat sympathize, that is aghast at how our churches have become extensions of the Republican party. They've started to push back.

I don't know many evangelical pastors that spend a lot of time on politics other than asking us to pray for our leaders, etc.

The better onse don't do much more than this; the really bad ones are like Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell - media whores for the Republican party. I remember at a church I went to in undergrad, there was an elder who would constantly extol President Bush and Condoleeza Rice from the pulpit as though he thought they should be canonized. That bothered me, even then when I was further to the right than I am now.

He may be right on 1, 3 and 4, because those are not necessarily in the Church's purview, but moralizing on sexual issues is EXACTLY what the church should do, because those issues are the ones that most affect how human beings act and react toward one another. Funny how he includes that in his list.

Agree 100%.

That said, the Bible has an awful lot to say about the explicit evil embedded in the RAT party. Ann Coulter is right - they are godless.

Disagree 100%. Are there "godless liberals"? Absolutely - but there is no shortage of "godless conservatives." The left does have a point when they point out that moral values include compassion for the poor. Their big error is in infantilizing them, and creating dependence - but equally severe is the tendancy towards social Darwinism rampant amongst conservatives (they're poor because they did something wrong, and we don't need to bother helping them out of their situation.)

And don't get me started on Ann Coulter. As far as I'm concerned, her polarizing rehtoric is a perfect example of all that is wrong with American politics.

Yep, I agree! The pastor/his ego has become enthralled with his success in the numbers game and has become ripe for doubts to enter in. The guy probably has always been a maverick and now he thinks he has the clout to come out of the closet on social issues. His ministry will spiral downward, IMHO.
