The French and Lebanese armies will take part in the multinational peacekeeping force expected to take position along the southern Lebanese border, it was revealed following a meeting between US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in Jerusalem. http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=21835_I_Remember_Vichy&only
He very likely does.....as do other members of the Lebanese government. It's a shame. They have to choose sides. They have chose unwisely.
Mine too, it is the first thing I do of a morning to check to see if I have a ping or a mail LOL
Israel will benefit by having its northern border secured and the Lebanese military is strengthened to take greater control over the country.
Don't give him ideas by posting such comments you never know who is following the thread :0)
If it were not for FR, I would be wandering the streets muttering and slobbering- thinking I was insane.....
LOL!
I mean really- THANK GOD I have FR to come to and realize that I am not the only one seeing how backwards everything is....
I am still amazed at the amount of poeple just oblivious to what is going on in the world....
I heard that comment I assume it must have been Gillerman can't remember when it was as I on the computer at the time and not really listening to the telly.
Amen and has always done so in recent history.
isn't sending French troops in to "defend" or patrol anything kinda like sending in a troop of brownies?
Jokes aside, the French are well regarded in the Levant and can pull it off where most other countries couldn't. Israel's objective is a secure northern border free from incursions and rocket attacks. If that result is achieved, Israel is the victor.
Tom Friedman, author of the book From Beruit to Jerusalem, being interviewed on MTP now. It was a terrific book in terms of getting the feel and smell of the history of the Middle East, but I thought that Friedman left out some important points about how no matter how often Israel has tried to appease the PLO, the PLO wants all Jews dead and constantly violated agreements.
That is not a minor point and the book should only be read to get a feel for the history of the Arab/Israeli conflict.
Bah...great grammar on my part.
;-)
It should be either, they chose unwisely or they have chosen unwisely.
Anyone know where SC has been?
I agree wars cannot be fought PC and in the long run it makes the suffering worse.
We have seen it in Iraq and now in the Lebanon - get the media out and let the army do their job.
I'm glad he's holding the line on this, but I'm waiting for the day somebody comes on with enough guts to add, "...and every one of you who gives both sides moral equivalence is a terrorist sympathizer and an enemy of my country, your own country, and everything else that is good!"
I guess I am an old school kind of guy. When your country is at war I think you should support it unequivocally and the troops. Not wax philosophically on a variety of Monday morning quaterbacking schemes all designed for political gain.
It is all relative. In any event, the French are there as "honest brokers" who have the military capability and diplomatic skills to work with both sides. Better them than troops from Ghana or Bangladesh.
Tom Friedman says that Syria is a tough and brutal regime, but business can be done with them with the right approach from the Administration. I see, Friedman wants us to go back to the pre-9/11 approach to the ME. Give them enough to let you alone. Didn't work then and won't work now.
LOL! Glad to be in such GREAT COMPANY!
btw- I disagree on the Laura vs BOR thing- but I won't flame you for it! LOL!
;-)
