We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when,
But I know
We'll meet again
Some sunny day.

If Israel nukes any arab country, they in turn get nuked. MAD (mutually assured destruction). I can just see Pakistan rubbing the red button

OH God, this is not good. Why the turn around? What has changed Israel's mind to go in and wipe the terrorists out? Score another victory for Ahmadinejad and his cohorts. The West is so weak now, I am getting afraid. Appeasment will not work, it will only encourage more acts of violence. They want it all, and they want it now. And we are going to hand it to them on a silver platter. Wake Up USA, and Canada, and Europe. Before it is to late. The time is drawing short. And the chess pieces are lining up for a check mate. Wake the Hell Up.

Brian suggests that there might be split within the Israel goverment. Olmert is out. You heard it here first.

This is, in essence, Isreal conceding defeat. The perception of deterrence has been completely destroyed. Every Islamofacist with a belt bomb will now believe he can push Isreal into the sea. Sad days ahead as the people of Isreal pay the price for its leadership's lack of resolve.Until I see evidence to the contrary I'm going to assume that Bush, after being told where the bear did his business in the buckwhheat by Tony Blair, has sold Israel down the river.

I don't like this, but the fact is that the momentum has shifted against Israel in the past few days. They're just reading the witing on the wall.

I understood it to mean that the info was wrong in the first place, not that Israel is backing away. My dog started barking, though, so I couldn't hear all of it.

...as if Lebanon is in a postion to concede anything. Good point. But somehow, this arrangment is in Israel's best interest.

It's a disservice to our troops in Iraq etc. for our US Gov't. to use it's influence to help the enemy in Leb. A disgrace too!!!

>>It's probably uncomfortable to go on live TV and admit your government blinked first.<<
this would also be a rotten time to flip flop - right after hezbollah goes on TV and says Israel wants a cease fire but is being pressured by the U.S. to keep fighting.... a flip flop right now would look like Israel stood up to the war mongering United states... there has got to be another explanation... I can't believe this story as reported.

There was earlier confirmation that disarmament would NOT be required and now at least some part of the goverment is withdrawning that confirmation.

Maybe as political cover (i.e., pretend peacekeepers pretend to disarm the Hezbos, while the world acts like it's real), but that's about it.

Now denied.
A reasonable explanation is that Rice proposed this and the initial Israeli response was not to completely shoot it down.
Someone then ran to the media and wanted to make it a possibility.

I think that it is possible that the Israelis are just calling Hiz'b'allah's bluff when Hiz'b'allah came up with an agreement with the Lebanese government to "disarm". Everybody knows that it is just a hudna, but "the world" has to pretend that it is an offer in good faith. The Israelis have to also play the game and play for time. We all knew that this offensive had a limited shelf life. I still think that Israel has another 5-10 days. As much as I would like to see Israel "finish the job", its own people likely wouldn't allow it.
Yes, all great civilizations don't die, they commit suicide. Western Civ is just the next one in line.
