This comes out strangely a couple of hours after Rice arrives in Israel.

I have to assume there is a lot we don't know. Israel has never been a shinking violet. They won't buckle under international pressure (since the international community has always been against it). The always act, forcibly, in their own interests. In that sense they have the most honest diplomacy in the world.
I suspect some major concessions (by Lebanon) have been made in the back channels.

It's probably uncomfortable to go on live TV and admit your government blinked first.

Finish the job. It's not like you will get any more bad press, Israel.

do you have any other details?I am watching at present but nothing except the breaking confirmation by Jennifer Griffin of the above news. Will post when more is available.
If true, this will clearly embolden the Hezzies and islamists around the world.

I just hope that Israel is not bowing to international pressure. Rice should have stayed home.

On its face, this news announces that Israel is throwing-in the towel -- that Israelis no longer have the guts to defend their country. What future can it have now?
To: Dark Skies
This is, in essence, Isreal conceding defeat. The perception of deterrence has been completely destroyed. Every Islamofacist with a belt bomb will now believe he can push Isreal into the sea. Sad days ahead as the people of Isreal pay the price for its leadership's lack of resolve.

If true it could be a matter of Israel showing the world again that they cease fire but the terrorists will attack again.

I didn't Tivo it but basically she said they could not accept an armed terroist army on their border and that these conditions were already require (and then she cited the U.N. resolution that she said required this).
So I guess there is some wiggle room - Hezbollah could be armed but not on the border....But that sure isn't the way i read the Israeli response an hour ago.

Jennifer is live again and is saying that Israel is now backing away from the earlier news above.
Brian suggests that there might be split within the Israel goverment.
To: Dark Skies
Now backing off! Called Jennifer Griffin back and said they will not drop the disarmament demand.
