KATIE PULLS STRINGS IN COCKPIT
NY Post ^ | July 29, 2006

KATIE Couric had fellow passengers aboard a New York-bound jet on the warpath this week when, as their plane was about to taxi to the runway, she got out of her seat and begged the pilot to allow one of her late-arriving producers to board. "It was like, 'Who the hell does she think she is?' " fumed one passenger who observed Couric's diva-like antics. "If you or I attempted something like this, we'd be cooling our heels at Guantanamo."

The witness told Page Six that attendants on Wednesday's 6:30 p.m. Delta Shuttle flight out of Washington, D.C., had already closed the door and passengers were buckled in, when the soon-to-be CBS News anchor raced up the aisle with a cellphone to her ear and told an attendant she had to speak to the pilot right away. Couric was then allowed into the cockpit and convinced the pilot to delay the flight and reopen the door for her producer, Nicola Hewitt.

"One flight attendant rolled her eyes and told me, 'This is only the second time I've ever seen this happen - the other time was a sick passenger,' " the witness said.

A spokesman for Couric confirmed the perky newsgal intervened, but insisted, "Katie only spoke to the pilot after receiving permission from the flight attendant." He said Hewitt had been delayed from getting on the shuttle behind Couric because of an extended security check. Then, trying to put a positive spin on the tale of Couric's chutzpah, the flack added that another late passenger who was also about to be stranded was also able to make the flight.

Delta spokesman Anthony Black said Couric got no special treatment. "The airlines get unusual situations that happen every day, and the crew is trained to make decisions on a case-by-case

Traveling on a passenger plane with the little people?

Isn't she "better" than that by now?

Here's hoping the attendant has been given his/her pink slip. Anyone else would have have had security called and escorted off the plane in handcuffs.

Let me count the ways:

1) NOT in her seat as the door is closed
2) NOT wearing seatbelt
3) USING a cellphone
4) RUNNING toward the cockpit

I would think that IF she had talked to a flight attendant, HE/SHE would have contacted the pilot to explain the situation and NOT allow Diva Couric to do what she did. Just another example of DIVAitis that infects celebrities.

"The airlines get unusual situations that happen every day, and the crew is trained to make decisions on a case-by-case

I can remember two distinct times I made last-minute connections. In another era, I arrived at the airport door by taxi, walked Verrrrrry fast through the airpost, to the gate, where they were closing the door. They opened it, and let me take my seat. I showed my ticket, as I ran down the loading ramp.

My most memorable one, though, they actually had started backing away, and stoped, extended the ramp enough to jump across, and i got on the flight. Try that now!

Ms Sparky is just doing what we all wish we could do! In this case, she worked it! I can't stand her, but this certainly isn't worthy of the title "news".

Now, Air Force One on the tarmac in LA for a haircut, is another story!

She's not one of the little people. She's an important Dinosaur of the Stone-age press!

Stranded? It's a shuttle! There is a flight every hour!

.....already closed the door and passengers were buckled in, when the (perky) News anchor raced up the aisle with a cellphone to her ear and told an attendant she had to speak to the pilot right away.

Somebody should have tackled her. That is the behavior of a terrorist with a bomb.

That's what shocked me! The 'perky' Ms. Katie C. on a public transport?? Good thing I was sitting down when I read the story...I feel faint....

Well, that's the point -- it is another era and if any regular person tried to do what she did they would have been arrested or at minimum put off the plane. I've ridden the DC shuttle with Newt Gingrich on board -- do you think that if he had done this, perky Katie wouldn't consider it newsworthy?

You little people do not understand. The producer HAD to be on that flight to worship her and nod in agreement with all the stupid remarks she barfs out.

Delta spokesman Anthony Black said Couric got no special treatment.

Yes, she did.

Couric was then allowed into the cockpit

Whoever 'allowed' her into the cockpit should be fired. I'm sure that is NOT a Delta protocol.

Delta should be fined $10,000. Katy should be arrested.
