Indeed. And, I'm now thinking, over his head would be more fitting.
PS: I also get so bl**dy steamed about all those experts telling us that PLO didn't work with so and so because he was a Shi'ite, or Atta couldn't be involved with Iraq, because Al Queda got support from Iran.
Don't these so called experts understand that there are no absolutes in the Muslim world of terrorism? Alliances are forged and broken all the time.
Experts.....ppppffffhh!
(I'm in a really foul mood now! Better get off the net and calm down.
Cheers)

Is there a command and control system at the tactical level? These guys are told to sit in a room and wait till the Israelis show up. I don't see any way inside that particular decision making cycle.
But they also have to eat, and eliminate waste, and sleep, and drink water. They cannot use their weapons when they run out of ammuition. Stockpiles built to last a hundred years have a way of running out in two weeks under an offensive or full scale defensive.
First interdict the log chain, then go house to house, using well proven MOUT tactics, until every house has been cleared.
At the same time, Iran and Syria have to be confronted.
Half measures and decisions avoided not only prolong the current crisis, such waffling is rapidly and alarmingly increasing strength and support for the terrorists across all of Islam.
During and after this set of priorities, hezbollah leadership can and should be addressed, but I do not think that focusing there will change much of the current situation.
Civil war in Lebanon should probably not be Israel's primary concern at this time.
However, your post might be extremely useful if distributed across the full of Lebanon. If non-aligned Lebanese understand exactly what Hezbollah has in mind for them later on, it could have significant effect upon Hezbollah's current and future capacity to adhere to their strategy of sitting tight and waiting for the IDF.
well, the only thing I disagree with in the whole war on terror is the proposition that people long for freedom. I think the average ignorant putz longs for security. A Southern congressman once phrased it well, "loose shoes; tight...etc. We Americans are unique not because of genetics or faith but rather because we were able to escape the past. Coming to this continent and starting anew had that effect. the average Croat , while still a toddler is learning about when his greatgreatgreatgreatgreat grandfather was slighted by some family one town over....The Euros , Islamics, RUSSIANS have never culturally experienced a new wide open possibility and so they don't understand us. Give an old Russian the idea of freedom and he immediately equates it with a guaranteed government pension not the ability to strike out on his own. this is the real damage that the Dems have done to the USA, for there is a growing segment in this country that expects the Gov to tell them what to do. FREEDOM is an aberation in human history and we may be underestimating how RARE it is

All very well put. I agree.
I couldn't disagree with you more. The desire for freedom is built into us.
Here is an experiment you may be able to run. Take a two year old who total life experience has been one where he/she is taken care of, watched, controlled, never given the freedom to do what they really want. That is, a typical two year old. Take that child to some environment that is safe and controlled enough that you can just let them run wild, do what they want, go where they want to go. Just follow them around and see what they do when they taste FREEDOM. You cannot watch something like this without knowing with absolute certainty that freedom is an inherent desire of the human species.
We have given Israel time, we have given them money, we have given them smart bombs, aviation fuel, training methods, modern technology, and Patriot batteries.
We cannot fight for them, unless they ask us to, and this has not happened yet.
Whether we like it or not, the ball is in Israel's court now, to deal with as they think best for their future. This is the right of all sovereign nations.
While they are deciding, I have a life to live, and therefore, I'm going to be out of here more than in here, but I will be checking in regularly.
As always, Freepmail is the best way to get my sttention if need be.
Hang tough, and if it comes to it, we will pick up the pieces after Israel decides what best serves their interests.
I think you missed the point.
The post was not, imho, that freedom was not an inherent yearning in each individual . . .
The point was that world governments and cultures through the eons virtually all implemented heavy handed control for eons.
I think his point is essentially correct.
Certainly God created us with an interesting paradox--a God-shaped void within yearning to worship Him which will worship virtually anything as an inferior substitute rather than submit to even God Almighty . . .
and a desire to be free to express our God designed individuality without restraints.

" support that Israel (and especially the US) appeared to gain in the Arab world will weaken as soon as it appears that Hezbollah and its sponsors may end up winners."
Quite true...
The "Hero's" of the Arab world are all DEAD, and anyone who can stand against the west is seen as the new "Leader".
With a constant parade of bad press, and supposed Israeli "Indecision", the Arabs are beginning to rally to Nasrallah....
No I didn't. I just think human nature trumps culture.
I can end that sentence:
... the Arabs are beginning to rally to Nasrallah, future martyr, very near future martyr.

For a different take on possible Israeli strategy, various concerned Freepers may want to read the postings under the Heading "Pulp Fiction". It's speculative but a lot better grasp of probable Israeli strategy then wwhat people like Ralph Peters et al are showing.
