Allah's Apostle said, "There are angels guarding the entrances (or roads) of Medina, neither plague nor Ad-Dajjal [the Muslim "Anti-Christ"] will be able to enter it."

HADITH Sahih Bukhari [3:30:105] Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The Prophet said, "There will be no town which Ad-Dajjal [the Muslim "Anti-Christ"] will not enter except Mecca and Medina, and there will be no entrance (road) (of both Mecca and Medina) but the angels will be standing in rows guarding it against him, and then Medina will shake with its inhabitants thrice (i.e. three earth-quakes will take place) and Allah will expel all the nonbelievers and the hypocrites from it."

HADITH Sahih Muslim [41:7032] Anas b. Malik reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said:
There will be no land which would not be covered by the Dajjal but Mecca and Medina, and there would no passage out of the passages leading to them which would not be guarded by angels arranged in rows. Then he (the Dajjal) [the Muslim "Anti-Christ"] would appear in a barren place adjacent to Medina and it would rock three times that every unbeliever and hypocrite would get out of it towards him.

I haven't checked it out . . . but IIRC, some commentators have speculated from the original root meanings of the words that it may be either a supernatural fire and brimstone from heaven that does Damascus in or, more likely a nuclear bomb.

But it's clear that Damascus will be utterly destroyed and never again be inhabited, if I understand things as clearly as I think I do from what I've read about the above verse and some others relate to it.

Damascus has NEVER been uninhabited since it's beginning. So those who claim that all such END TIMES PROPHECIES were already fulfilled in the past are silly, imho. Damascus is a glaring proof that's not true. The prophecy about Damascus being destroyed . . . part of a whole context of END TIMES PROPHETIC SCRIPTURES . . . that prophecy has yet to be fulfilled. So, imho, all similar prophetic END TIMES Scriptures cannot have to do primarily with the past.

In any case, Damascus is a benchmark for watching what's going on with Israel and God's workings in our era.

Exactly. Can we assume the following now: If Israel and Syria go into a general war, Saudi Arabia will attack Iran if Iran also enters this war ? Are the Saud's assuming Iran will attack them when Iran decides to attack Israel ? Iran will have to go through either Iraq or Saudi Arabia or Turkey to enter the main event with Israel.
