Mike Nifong is trying to reassure voters that he's the man for the job a day after a potential challenger said he won't pursue the district attorney job.
Nifong admitted Friday that there's some justification to criticism about how he handled the media with the Duke case.
"My handling of the media coverage of this case has occasioned substantial criticism, some of which is undoubtedly justified," Nifong said during a half-hour press conference. "I both underestimated the level of media attention this case would draw and misjudged the effect that my words would have.

Putz: (Yiddish) a fool; an idiot
Take your pick. Or, you can use both to describe Mr. Nifong.

I flipped on WRAL's HD TV today to try to catch a rerun of the noon weather and they were rerunning the press conference.
I just sat down, mesmerized; I couldn't stop watching -- the words that come out of his mouth mean NOTHING; and that goofy, loopy INAPPROPRIATE smile of his is diabolical.
It was fascinating to watch.
As long as that sin is not lust, you are safe.
This case is a North Carolina problem. The damage this man is doing is immeasureable. Every dollar NC is spending to lure business to their state is money out the window as long as these cases are allowed to continue.
???
his handling of the legal case and the horrific misuse of the "system" to run up the charges against the Duke players is IMO a deed worthy of jail time...
Exactly right.
Here's a perspective from an atty. who has played D1 lacrosse. Keep in mind that the President of the University slandered thes kids within 48 hrs., by "apology" e-mail to alumni, fired coach Pressler summarily, and their own weenie left wing student newpaper was on the same tack. When the girls lax team wore "innocent" badges, opponents considered those to be "fightin' words". Nearly everything wrong with Academia today is contained in this one case. As for Nifong, he is a crooked politician, plain and simple.
Got that Right!
I wonder was Nifong speaking in code or race-baiting when he said at the Press Conference today that this (DUKE-LAX Case) "Demands a Durham Solution."
I thought Justice was Justice - no matter the address.
NC isn't going to do anything to Nodong. The only way to get rid of him is to shoot him or vote him out. It may be that the best thing that can be made of what the dumbassed Durham voters have wrought is to vote for Cheek. Then, when he refuses to take office and serve, they'll be stuck with whatever other moron Easley visits on them. Maybe that person (assuming he doesn't re-appoint Nodong) will have the sense to drop the charges or get a special prosecutor appointed.
Then, when Cheek runs for councilman or commissioner or whatever he is, vote HIM out.
I'm still hoping that there is some hook by which the defense team can get this into federal court.
That sounds like Nodong's warning that he will pull the same crap that he's been pulling to keep the trial in Durham court.
<< Nifong also said there was evidence he hoped to have in the case, such as DNA, but that it didn't pan out.
"There were things we hoped to have in terms of evidence that we ended up not having," >>
As in 'the "things" we hoped to have in terms of "evidence"' simply do not exist. There is no "evidence."
He needs to be indicted .. hope the Duke guys can go after him .. his selfish greed has stained their lives horribly.
So far, the students at Duke have kept quiet. The university would like this whole thing to blow over. If the DA rigs up the jury correctly...with 10 local minority types and two educated white guys....its a hung jury. The DA gets to walk out of the room and say all the negative things he wants...but he won't retry the case. And the guys walk free. And as for the 10 minority guys on the jury...they will say that the two educated guys kept bringing up scientific evidence lacking...which the locals won't comprehend or agree to. In this scenario....everyone wins in the end. The DA gets reelected, the locals try the boys, the girl gets day in court, the university gets a finished case which looks ok, and life goes on in Duke City.
Electioneering......nothing more.
Jimmy Carter rather famously admitted in an interview with Playboy that he sinned in his heart by lusting after women.
An excellent analysis.
