McAuliffe Nostalgia - "Dean is Making McAuliffe look good."
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 27, 2006 | Tom Bevan

Posted on 07/28/2006 9:46:37 AM PDT by new yorker 77

Let me steal the opening from Ruth Marcus' column on Alberto Gonzales yesterday and repackage it for my own purposes:

Howard Dean is achieving something remarkable, even miraculous, as DNC Chairman: He is making Terry McAuliffe look good.

Surveying the wreckage of Dean's latest imbecilic utterings, grotesquely overwraught analogies, and phony calls for unity, one really has to wonder: has there been a greater buffoon leading one of the two major parties in recent history?

Republicans remain thrilled by Dean's rise, of course, not only because he has an uncanny ability to make the Democratic party look bad with cringe-inducing headlines on a fairly regular basis, but also because he's created such a deep division within the party itself.

The bitter feud between Dean and DCCC Chair Rahm Emanuel and over Dean's rapid cash burn rate and his insistence of pursuing a 50-state strategy at the expense of allocating all available resources toward this November is well known. And as Jay Cost wrote last week, with Democrats enjoying strong fundraising and a favorable national political climate, "the timing of this feud could not be worse."

Time will tell whether Dean's 50-state strategy turns out to be a smart, long-term investment or a collosal waste of resources. Much of the outcome will be determined by execution, and frankly Dean's track record in that department doesn't instill much confidence. As we learned shortly after his presidential bid imploded, not only was Dean fabulously undisciplined as a candidate, he was a terrible manager as well, and behind the scenes his campaign was an "utterly poisonous" mix of bickering and backbiting.

Luckily for Democrats, Dean is but one of three links in the party's '06 election chain, and the other two (Chuck Schumer and Rahm Emanuel) are exceedingly disciplined, focused, and have put the party in the best possible position to make gains and perhaps recapture one or even both chambers of Congress this fall. But you know what they say: a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If Democrats somehow manage to blow another opportunity this November, Schumer and Emanuel will get their share of criticism, to be sure, but expect most of it to flow to the trio's weak link, Howard Dean.

Which is exactly what the Clintonistas want. They are letting the moonbats run the DNC for two years in hopes they will screw things up - and then will go back and tell the moonbats it's time to put the adults in charge again if you want to win in 2008.

Do you know if there is a list compiled of Mad Man Dean's outrageous quotes?

The list would come in handy for the upcoming elections on just where the democrats stand and how they think.

I'm having trouble understanding this logic, but maybe I'm just too stupid to understand this reasoning.

Dean is a Central Casting dream for Republicans.

Harsh, shrill and ever entertaining, he is a gift to the right.

If competence were a factor in the choice, he would have never been given the job.

Thankfully however, the Dems never consider it in their selections.

All together now; 4 more years !

When Iran launches a nuke in August, the Dems are gonna go down in flames in November.

Cheers,

Hillary has a big problem in 2008 as things now stand. If she runs far enough left to satisfy the moonbats in order to get the nomination, she won't be able to get back to the middle.

But by letting the moonbat's spokesman (Dean) run things for two years, if he craters the party in the 2006 elections, it will discredit the ability of the moonbats to win elections - they think Dems don't run leftward enough. The Clintonistas want them to fail so they will be willing to toe the party line in 2008.

I think they are not that stupid. They would supply Hezbuttheads with the weapon and let them take the blame/heat. However, everyone would know where it came from, originally. Damascus and Teheran would be smoldering radioactive ruins in less than a day...............

I heard Bob Beckle on Sean Hannity's show yesterday.

He is totally disgusted with Howard Dean. He mentioned that he has to spend half of his time answering questions about comments by Dean, BTW comments that he does not defend.

He is really ticked off with what they are doing to Lieberman, because without Lieberman on the ticket the voters may not cross over to vote for other dems.

I think Dean makes perfct sense, and his strategy is perfect for his party. Ijust wish he'd tell us what he really thinks instead of holding back. :-)

Why does the rest of the media not point this out instead of fawning over this nut job like some sort of populist hero?? If Looney Tune Dean were a Republican party chair saying the kind of moronic things he does, the media would roast the guy alive and we'd never hear the end of having the dumb things he says being repeated back to us.

I have to agree with the sentiments in this piece. The Dims, under the leadership of Terry, did wonders for Republican electoral chances, and I thought I would miss McAuliffe terribly. But no; since Howie has come on board, my affections have altered, and I hope he is with us for a very, very long time.

Terry McAuliffe wasn't crazy, just a corrupt thief. Fit in well with the Clintons and he was given a pass by MSM.

I'm playing 'The Dean Scream Video' on a loop in the background.

The Yaarrrgghhhh!! scared away birds outside my window.

Yes it is hot here, but I air out the house every Friday.

The birds never knew what hit them.

Rational behavior is not the Iranian leaderships strong suit.

You do know that having a world wide confrontation is exactly what Ahmadinejad is seeking, right?

In order for the 12th Madi to reappear, chaos ans destruction need to occur.

What better way than starting WW3 ( or 4 ) ?

Trying to use modern Western Logic when dealing with a 7th century mindset is dangerous.

I truly believe the feces are going to hit the oscillator in August.

Cheers,

If you remember that, for the Clintons, Hillary's bid for the WH in 2008 is everything. This way, they get full control of the DNC for that run, when Howie is tarred and feathered after the 2006 elections.
