Actually, to a dyslexic, it could be knackers, couldn’t it.
She has knackers.
I have worked very hard to polish my people skills and make people pucker,
at both ends ; )
I am so glad I’m not alone : )
I miss him so much, too.
I hate that laughin/cryin thang...I end up choking and making weird noises : )
MCRD Paris Island, June 4, 1969, platoon 184, Brick barracks, floor covered with water (sweat), state of shock, dare not be “set-back,” rifle range, O course, and Drill Instructors—most despised, most respected—everyone wanted to be one.
One can remember a great deal about the experience.
GTMO and Lejuene.
Proud to get corporal in Fleet Marine (infantry)...
Proud to have served. Should have stayed in.
Three year bumperootus! That day of infamy is now 43 years ago....
Forty five years bump....some dates you just never forget.
Went to D 13 4 in Ft. Knox the winter of 1982-1983. Sergeant Hunt was the senior Drill.
46 years-since bumperootus....whew.
Well, one more time, hehe.
Dec. 26 1970 Parris island...My senior DI SSgt Bill Smith with ribbons up to his lapel, SALUTE.
The little 125lb Marine that struggled with an M14 in the prone position went on to be a pure rock n’ roller with the M16.
It was 39 years ago this year. From the AFEES station in Jax we boarded an Army bus to the airport. It was 84 degrees that Oct. We flew to Louisville where it was 44 degrees, and dropping. All I had was a Levi jacket and a set of jeans. Needless to say this FL boy almost froze his cajones off.
Got to Knox, and when the bus stopped (in front of those painted feet), a DI came onto the bus screaming, "get off my fu@king bus NOW!" I said to myself, self you done screwed up...
5.56mm
Forty eight years bumpy...! Whew
Book mark
Great thread.
When I met my wife, her son was spending weekends his senior year talking to all of the recruiters in Fontana, CA. Their offices were all in the same strip mall.
He signed up for the marines for discipline and tradition. Yes he’s that kind of a guy, while I’m an old ex-hippie.
When they threw a reception in Fontana a Major showed up. My step-son seemed to dominate his time with questions.
The recruiters promised a choice of MOS. 3 Weeks after graduation he was on the bus.
He did well in boot camp and they sent him to Pendleton to the truck company at Camp Marguerita. Of course, they had him driving a 5-ton, since he didn’t have a drivers license. Finally got a military license and then a CA license.
On Thursdays they assigned him to a computer in an office to catch up on the back load of work. One day he saw a poster-become a Marine Security Guard. The rest was 8 weeks in training at Quantico, 15 months each in Honduras and Amman.
Left the marines to go to school after they failed to live up to a promise of SAT test and other college programs. They offered him a third tour, not usually done, to go to Pakistan and help set up the increased contingency at the embassy (post 9-11). He told the Captain from regional HQ that they Marines did not follow-thru on their commitments to him and he was leaving to go to college. Did that and has a successful career.
Proud to be in the family.
great story thanks for laughs!
I can't believe I've been bumping my own eight year old thread each "anniversary"...but, hey, this date was a lifechanger.
(About this time in the evening, IIRC, we'd been shamed, shorned and shat on for a few hours.....and were led to a huge shower room where what seemed like a half-dozen of the DIs were yelling, "Scrub the hairy portions of your bodies, you filthy civilian maggots!!")
