British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett has protested to the US about its use of Prestwick Airport in western Scotland to transport bombs to Israel.SNP leader Alex Salmond claimed the UK government must decide whether to "be an aircraft carrier" for the US.
The Lib Dems suggested the Americans were taking the UK for granted.Mr Salmond said that "with an escalating Middle East conflict", it was ill-advised to send bombs "to arm one side in that conflict to the teeth, at a time when hundreds of civilians, many children, United Nations observers, have already been eliminated, killed, by similar weapons"."If these reports are true, it is particularly provocative for the United States to have acted in this way," he said.
"It can only reinforce the belief of many that Britain is taken for granted in the so-called special relationship.
"Who knows how many of these munitions may be used to cause the kind of damage to Lebanon which the prime minister of that country described in Rome as cutting his country to pieces."

I'd thought that after WWII it was pretty clear the Brits were not generally in favor of killing Jews, but maybe we were wrong in that estimation.
Can we assume these comments were made in English and not German?
We should just use the Ramstein base in Germany to ship arms to Israel. I doubt anyone, let alone the German government, could prevent arms shipments to Israel if we use that base. It's basically our base. Why bother with this nagging?
I'm ashamed of this behavior, it is beyond disgusting. We should be more than happy to help a loyal ally.
Blair should tell everyone to shut up and grow up.
They were made by or on behalf of the Scottish National Party, whom Nu Labour desparately need in their camp. The British People do not speak in unison, and they will never speak through Margaret Beckett (think "Madeline Allbright" and you'll be close enough)
With regard to the "German" thing - the Royal Navy saved Britain from the Nazis. Or do you maintain that America magically blocked Hitler's operation SeaLion before even entering the war?
And the Royal Air Force.
Don't be silly you know very well if the US Navy had't captured that Enigma machine( LAUGH OUT LOUD) and those two US airmen hadn't won the Battle of Britain (LAUGH OUT LOUD) what dire straights us Brits would be in now.
I can tell you for a fact that Magaret Beckett is an old Labour dinosaur who speaks for NONE of Britain.
All things considered this is her last ever term in a position of power till she gets consigned to the political dustbin.
I'm ashamed of her behaviour and comments, she should resign immediately, and while she's at it all her feminist bra burning freaks as well. We don't need the hairy toe brigade anymore!!
Believe me there are millions of Brits here who would sacrifce their own lives rather than let Islamism take a hold in this country and a majority of us would want Israel to win this war, no doubt about that.
Hey Beckett! Do you speak German? No? You're welcome! (Who is taking whom for granted??)
"Wake up Maggie, I think I got something to say to you,
The morning sun, when it's in your face really shows your age . . . "
`Maggie May', Rod Stewart
You are talking about the infamous, socialist, Labour gummint, not all Brits. The left wingers are in charge and will remain so until the real Brits stant up and take over. The country is now being flooded with more and more Arabs (and Poles, now that Poland is part of the EU), bent on our and their destruction. And yes, they are scared of the Arabs in the country.
Well, I like to emphasise the Royal Navy aspect as most people miss it. The Battle of Britain could have been "lost" - with air cover becoming scrappy over the the channel - and the Germans still wouldn't have had a prayer of getting clear sea-roads.
I mean no disrespect to the "few", but it was the Royal Navy that allowed Churchill to famously remark that "We look forward to an German invasion - and so do the fishes".
Well said. You and me both, Sir
Good point, well made.
I don't know why this is never expressed when others suggest us Brits are afraid of Islam. We have about 20 million females here ..it took nearly 2000 years before female emancipation and I can assure you that any suggestion that they should all wear Burkas, remain uneducated and walk 3 paces behind their husbands is laughable in the extreme and most probably suicidal and quite rightly so.
