A statewide poll shows 76 percent of respondents support a proposed state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

The Mason-Dixon poll for the Chattanooga Times Free Press found strong support among 642 Tennessee voters who were interviewed in a telephone survey between July 17th and 19th. Fifteen percent said they'd vote against it and nine percent were undecided. The poll has an error margin of plus or minus four percent.

Support for the amendment was strongest among men and residents of East Tennessee, where 81 percent of respondents said they would vote for it.

The question will appear on the November election ballot.

Oh, and I do support a ban on gay marriage. I failed to mention that previously.

I was shocked that the ultra-Liberal WA State Supreme Court ruled today banning gay marriage.

WA is a CA wanna-be. Seattle, SF-lite. One state at a time...

I'll be casting my vote and making sure my parents are there, as well.

But I refuse to call this a ban on gay marriage. This is affirming marriage between one man and one woman only. Nothing more, nothing less. To define this as a gay marriage ban is to do an injustice to the amendment.

Having lived with gay roommates and having mutliple gay friends, I can honestly say that someone is more than capable of having close, gay friends and being exposed to the gay community and be against any marriage outside of the traditional one. If anything, the more exposure I've had to the gay community, the more I've realized how important these amendments are.

Let the citizens decide.

And wouldn't it be nice if the media would stop saying a "ban on gay marriage". It's not possible to ban something that doesn't exist.

Can I ban dogs playing the clarinet?

Actually, I could see this happening on Letterman. Better to ban men giving birth to kids.
