PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The city said it will evict a Boy Scout council from its publicly owned headquarters or make the group pay a fair rent price unless it changes its policy on gays.

The Boy Scouts' Cradle of Liberty Council, the country's third-largest, has been battling with the city for more than three years over the policy, which like the national Scouts organization forbids gays from being leaders.

City Solicitor Romulo L. Diaz Jr. wrote a letter to William T. Dwyer III, president of the Cradle of Liberty Council, stating that the council's "discriminatory policies" violate city policy and law, and that city officials have not been assured the group will not discriminate.

Unless the city gets a "fair-market rent agreement," the council will be evicted, the letter says.

The group has made its headquarters on a half-acre owned by the city in the upscale Philadelphia Art Museum area since 1928, when the city council voted to allow the Scouts to use the property rent-free "in perpetuity." The Scouts pay for building upkeep.

If the answer is that they don't allow male leaders, and for the reasons I am thinking, does Philadelphia have the same attitude towards them?

Yes, the GSUSA does allow male leaders, but I believe they cannot be "principal leader" (i.e., can't be the top unit leader, such as the Cubmaster or Scoutmaster in the BSA).

In which case, it seems only logical that the same rule should apply to homosexuals in charge of boys, for the same reason.

I assume that Philadelphia doesn't prejudice against them... but then, it's the homosexuals who require preferential treatment, above the needs of the children... as usual.

I think a whole stream of Christians should apply for leadership positions in gay organizations and we'll see how equally open they are to leadership that is opposed to their organization's core values.

Just to play Devil's advocate:
In a legal sense, sometimes "in perpetuity" can mean indefinitely (i.e. no fixed term of years) and not necessarily forever and ever.

Traditionally, most property courts are loathe to enforce restrictions that permanently tie up property. You know, control of the dead hand and all.

There are a few things I remembered from my BSA days. For three years (1979 to 1981) I went to the Scout Camp at Ransburg off of IN446 by Lake Monroe. What I remembered, the people who were considered the adults including Senior Patrol leader who was around 17 years old, they used separate facilities when they went to shower. The toilets were a different matter since it was a long walk from different parts of the camp. I don't know how much has changed but if the BSA was smart, there would be at least two adults together when dealing with kids - accountability. I usher at my local Church and one rule is when we deal with kids, there are always two adults together especially when we take the 3 & 4 years to the bathroom. In fact, we do NOT enter either unless there is a fight (if any). There are two set of bathrooms and one set are off limits to the adults (kids only). The age cutoff is around 16 or 17.

Recently, I was visiting a local high school for some community things and it was during the school day. I had to use the can but I asked where the "Faculty" restrooms were at and used those even though it was at another part of the building.

The Boy Scouts has been a faggot magnet for decades. Similar incident occurred in CA back in the 60s in the Palo Alto area. Now we have NAMBLA to further the cause of molestation of boys by queers. Sickening, but this is an alternative lifestyle supported by the deviant-mongers and deviant judges.
