While Rice cites some logic, the solution is not negotiation. As we have learned by watching 40 years of wasted lives, money and effort. Until the terrorists are wiped from the face of the earth, will this ever end. So, when Hizbollah says that the root-cause is the existance of Jews in the Holy Land, Rice will work for a 'cease-fire' that will 'address' it.

Before I left Beirut, most of the Lebanese with whom I was working (Sunnis, Shias, Maronites and Druze alike) said that they hoped their losses would not be in vain, that Israel would break the back of Hizbollah. A cease-fire would ensure that Hizbollah survives.
