A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....07-21,22,23-06....T.G.I.F. at the Finest

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

I love that painting, Miss Billie!

Wearing red for Victory!

O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever!
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood!

Just beautiful, Nan!.. I love the edge and the cross! I know how you will treasure it.

I had to isolate the picture to get it to load..Next lesson ..how to get a picture below 300,000 bytes! Billie can give help on that.. I can't resize on this computer.

(Dial up is a pain.)

LOL! Organic CAN be very expensive. Amy's is pretty good, though. I like Boca grillers, too, and the best "bacon" is Morningstar Farms' Breakfast Strips, which is delicious just microwaved (their breakfast links are also great). "Gimme Lean" sausage is quite good, too. The soy chorizo you find in the produce section of WalMart, however, you can feel free to give a pass. There is a peppered Tofurkey that is merely okay, and most of the canned meat substitute products are pretty bad.

One of my favorite jokes is: "Vegetarian: ancient Indian word for lousy hunter."

FReepmail to follow, then I have to run my errands.

Victoria, you need a virus program that PREVENTS virus from entering your computer.. not one that just removes them after the fact.

AVG is good & FREE.. can download it.

Once that nasty stuff gets in, you often have a progressive problem that will destroy more than you wish.

If you have not done so yet, back up all. If you have a lot of graphics an external hard drive might be the best. DO NOT back up any of the OS programs etc...

The Struggle

In the last days perilous times will come. —2 Timothy 3:1

Have you ever heard someone suggest that if you just trust Jesus, He’ll solve all your problems and you’ll float through life with riches and peace?

If that were the way God planned it for the people who serve Him, then what was Paul’s problem? After his conversion, he was as godly as they come, yet he had problems galore. He was one of the greatest missionaries of all time—and what did he get for his trouble? Beaten up. Arrested. Nearly drowned. Run out of town.

Look at Joseph, Abraham, Job, Jeremiah, Peter—godly men one and all. Yet they all faced dangers and trouble none of us would ever desire.

So, why the struggle? Why is it that tragedy strikes Christians with the same blunt force that it strikes the most antagonistic atheists? Why are we not exempt from natural disasters, serious illness, interpersonal squabbles, and mistreatment by others?

Somehow, in God’s way of making things work out, our troubles can advance His kingdom and purposes (Romans 8:28; Philippians 1:12). Our task is to glorify God, no matter what the circumstances. If we do, our struggle can direct others to the Savior as we make our way toward our ultimate goal of rest and reward in heaven. Dave Branon

To make us good ambassadors
God sends us trials along the way,
But we become true conquerors
When in life’s struggles we obey.  —Hess

God allows trials in our lives not to impair us but to improve us.

Good Morning!

Thank you, a much needed Bible lesson for these times.
We are fortunate we have the Bible to teach us how to survive and thrive in these end times.

Your lessons and prayers encourage and strengthen us.

Oh my MEG, I did resize it and it's smaller on my puter. Do you mean it came up on yours as large as it was originally? It was huge.

Indeed..This is one of the things that I need reminding of in the midst of trials.

That is the same size that the other one shows on my computer Dolly. Why did it go large for everyone else? I made it 640x480.

It is a different size Pixel wise... I made it a bit smaller in size but have less pixels per inch so it is only 24Kb instead of 300+. Not sure you understand this & if you have just limited time for pix, don't worry about it for now. When lori, amy or I do pix for you, we will make sure they aren't monsters that will get the natives upset.

For those of us with cable/dsl there seems no difference. Dial up folks can see it quickly

It isn't the dimensions of the picture, width and height.. ..It is the number of bytes..Click properties on yours and it has over 300,000, Dolly downsized it and it has less than 30,000.

I had never heard of bytes when I first started posting graphics and I posted some real "thread stoppers! Billie is the one who told me to keep them around 70,000 and below for dial up posters.. I had to do a lot of experimenting to get the downsizing thing "how tos" learned..Here on this computer the imaging program is fouled up as far as being able to downsize...

I am on cable at the other house and usually don't even notice byte size from others..

Those threads where a number of photographs are posted all together in one post are really impossible to download and see ,too.

I just know enough to get by..Others here are much more knowledgeable.

I could not have kept the size and downsized below 30,000.. Good Job.. I am still a novice at this!

Dolly is right..just send it to someone who can downsize it when something like this comes along that needs posting.

I am GLAD you posted it, Nan! It was worth waiting for!

This post was a good reminder to us all.
As I read it I looked at my own life and wondered how the Lord is working in our lives.

My wife is reading the Bible in a year, you can do it by reading the links at the bottom. She is doing it right out of the Daily Bread book and the Bible.
