I think that I would try noxious gases to clear the tunnels.

How many MOABS would it take to carpet bomb from the sea to Jordan?

"SLAR) will do the trick."

Do you think so? SLAR stands for Side Looking AIRBORNE Radar. Are you thinking of SONAR? SLAR has all the properties of radar, and capabilities are the same (does not penetrate the earth). It just fires and reads to the side.

They COULD use the seismic charges like paleontologist use to see dino bones (fossils) underground.

I think he was referring to ground penetrating radar, but if I'm correct, from a quick google, it's limited to about 30 feet....

Unless there are numerous secret entrance-ways and exits, one would think that the IDF could sort of trap the rats inside the bunkers, and then feed in poison gas or something.

Maybe I've seen too many movies, but that seems like one option that could save the precious lives of Israeli soldiers.

Like the Ents did to Isengard...

Cheers!

"Can the bunkers be detected in another way?"

Oilfield 3D siesmic will expose tunnels/caves/bunkers.

Is that really a bunker buster? Latest model or an older one?

I apologize for my abysmal ignorance. What is an Arc Light?
The only such I have heard of is a fictitious cannon on Terran tanks in the computer game Starcraft.

Cheers!

High-pressured poison gas as well might work.

Fill 'em with gasoline. Got a match?

Fill 'em with cement!

Ultrasound can be focused through the ground.

It can literally boil water (or people).

As for finding the tunnels, ask Shell engineers.

In theory it could, but 3D seismic is almost always configured to look for stuff far more than a mile deep. I can't imagine these bunkers are that deep. Plus, the turnaround time from acquisition to processing and interpretation is about a year.

It's a good thought, but not anywhere near being a battlefield weapon yet. ;-)

How long to migrate the code to the Japan Earth Simulator (35 trillion floating point ops /second) or some of our bigger stuff at Los Alamos / Livermore? ;-)

Cheers!

"Then go in and mop up the dazed survivors."

Not at 120 feet underground. Depending on the soil composition the tunnel occupants would barely feel a thump.

The Israeli's would need a ground penetrator. "Bunker Busters" can penetrate 20-40 (max)ft of concrete or from altitude 100 of just soil and light rock.

They would probably need two or three to get a concrete bunker of say 10ft concrete under 100+ft of soil and rock. Even then they would need them to stike the relatively exact same spot.

Now if they could get one to come in from space at 10000+ fps they might have better luck. Tough to aim though. We were looking at designing one around the time of the start of GWII. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1606420/posts)

Like the Maginot Line, or the Kuwait/Saudi border in Iraq 1.....cut off the supply lines, then wait for them to stick their heads up...meanwhile doing quick strikes at targets of opportunity...problem is, need to be sure any missile launchers that pop up get taken out before they can fire. I can't see the Hez being too patient down there. You'd think they'd be in a hurry to pop up and make martyrs of themselves, the virgins are waiting.

How about simply drilling numerous large holes under the bunkers - they're only 120 feet deep - place charges beneath. I'm thinking the bottoms aren't as thick as the tops.

"MOABS"

A MOAB is a SURFACE weapon. Relatively useless for deep underground work. Might ruin and entrance but not much more.

We have to find a way to not only detect them, but collapse them as well.

We could subcontract out a demolition job to the Viet Cong. They're pretty good in tunnels as well.
