WASHINGTON (AP) President Bush has issued the first veto of his presidency, rejecting a bill to expand federal research on stem cells obtained from embryos.
>>>Because no company is going to invest money that won't produce returns for 40 years.
Can you explain that?
dirtboy, you're coming across kind of nutty-like...Calm down and take a deep breath...remember what they taught you in Anger Management class,,,,Take a deep breath -- Tranquillity in, Now let it out, Frustrations out...
Why compliment the most incompetent president since Carter and LBJ? (please notice, Bushbots, I DID NOT say "corrupt" as I save that term for pure dirtbags such as Clinton, Nixon, Harding, Pierce, Buchanan and Hayes).
Well done! Thank you so much.
I'm not the one whining about name-calling after casting a stone myself.
I'm perfectly calm and lucid.
Nope, the DU term would have an obscene adjective too!
An answer, and a true story.
The answer: one is destroying for the purpose of destruction, the other is creating for the purpose of creating life. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it does, as mentioned in the following story:
A couple I knew from my church was in their mid 30s, about 11 years ago. Both of them were only children. The wife had a ruptured appendix when she was young, which caused some damage to her tubes. So she could get pregnant, but could not stay pregnant. They tried in-vitro for a long time, but it didn't work.
So they tried one last time, and finally she was able to get pregnant. Then they went to their first doctors' appointment. The doctor started counting, and stopped at five. Five! The doctor advised them to "selectively reduce" (cutesy term for abortion), in order to improve the chances for the others. They said "no way". If God wanted to take one or more, that was His call.
It turns out, they did lose one, naturally, a girl. They didn't treat it as just some blob, they treated her as a real person. (and these are not fanatics.) Later, they went back to the doctor, who again counted, and found out that they had...five. They said, "how can we have five? We lost one." The doctor said, "Well, you had six then, because you had five then, you have five now." (one was hidden in the original ultrasound reading.)
So they were pregnant with five children. She looked like someone with twins would look full term at 2 months. She was on bedrest from 2 months, until they took them at 6 and a half months. 95 seconds later, they had five healthy children, ranging from 3 pounds to 4 1/2 pounds, the healthiest set of quintuplets ever born in the U.S.
By the way, their names are Scot and Patty Shier. Do an internet search on their name, you'll find their full story. They named their three girls after women in the Bible who had been barren, but were later given children by God: Sarah, Hannah, and Rachel. The two boys, Jonathan and Joshua, were named after their strong and mighty Biblical equivalents.
Their church helped out round the clock. Companies donated everything from diapers to an add-on to their house. They have been on the Tonight Show, and some of the Home network shows. The hospital, out here in California, holds a birthday party for them every year. And on their last birthday, this past January 23, the quints turned 10.
Is that a blessing or what?
I have no problem with the locale, I have a problem with the religious freaks who think they run the country because they won an election by negative 1200 votes!
There is a huge difference between an embryo and a baby. An embryo is not a human life. It can be frozen for years, then it can be thawed, implanted, and it becomes a baby. You cannot do this with a fetus. An embryo is nothing more than a clump of cells formed from a chemical reaction that has the POTENTIAL to become a human life.
So do you think Bush is more incompetent than Clinton?
Umm, simple economics and finance.
The "man" followed his moral conscience. That's it. What's not to understand? Except maybe it is so refreshing to find a President who has a conscience.
*raises hand*
My mama told me the stork brought me and my mama don't lie.
You have just poured some full-strength iodine in our culture's wounds ... and you may hear some howling. But I for one appreciate your speaking the truth.
I still have no idea what you are trying to convey.
That would imply he does not know what he is doing. I think he does, indeed, know EXACTLY what he is doing, all the time... and that is the scary part!
I'd be ashamed of voting for Frist twice, except I recall the alternative.
"The elected official's job is NOT to simply ape the will of the majority of his constituents nor vote his own will. His job is to do what is legally permitted and best for the societal unit over which he governs. Protecting innocent life is a high calling and moral obligation for any legitimate government."
Indeed.
That's because adult stem cells have been researched since the 1950s! We are just NOW starting to see benefits. Embryonic stem cells have only been researched for about 8 years.
And I guess you failed to see the point. Research today will payoff 40 years from now. The argument that embryonic stem cell research has produced no results ignores the fact that this kind of research can take decades to produce results.
I thought the post about moon rocks was self-explanatory, but I guess some people need to be spoon-fed.
Thank you, Dear God, that our President has chosen life and truth. May Your Name be praised and glorified! Amen.
