Maybe I am confused, but it does not seem to be a sanctity problem. It seems to be a scientif endeavor to find ways to delay, or defeat death and aging. I do not support abortion, but what this is about is money, anyway.

I am a Christian. I think I have a grasp of the theology. Please show me any Scripture which would forbid the use of embryonic tissue to benefit man. I can't seem to find one.

And this sort of this is why I voted for Mr. Bush (rather than merely voting against Messrs. Gore and Kerry). This sort of thing is why I WILL NOT vote for any candidate in the next presidential election who does not hold a reasonable and believable pro-life position.

But that's the thing - in the scenario you described, we DID do something. A second life was formed. There's no going back, at that point.

OK. Then suppose we split off a cell at a later stage. Is a human life still formed?

So let me get this straight:

Brazen nanny-state socialism gets a pass time and again for years, but he decides to whip out the veto pen to make an arguably pointless (and kind of stupid) ideological statement?

Embryonic stem cell research will never put this country in jeopardy, but big government socialism most certainly will. It is nice to see the President using his veto power to look after the long-term best interests of the country. I do not vote for either left socialist or right socialist, I vote for anti-socialist and I see that I do not have much to look forward to.
